Assessment Registration logins will be using the Study Island username without the @Learning, and everyone's password will be student

You must log in and log out for each student you are registering

When you register, you are committing your student for that session, on all three days of testing.

Be sure to mark your calendars and make plans accordingly.

Sign up as quickly as possible on Monday, January 23rd, particularly if you have more than one child who will be taking assessments. There are limited slots available.

Think about when you would like your student to complete the test. There are a lot of days between March 6 and April 10. Some students are ready to take the test in March, others will benefit from continuing through their K12 OLS and more preparation.

o The best way to eliminate nerves: Be Prepared!

o Make adequate and consistent progress in the K12 curriculum

o Work on additional activities and resources as assigned

o Attend Elluminate sessions

Help deter the Speedy Stans

o Do not inadvertently offer a reward for speeding through the assessment

preparation activities or the test! (Example of what not to say: "If you finish

the test quickly we will go to the mall (or zoo, etc.).”

o Remind your student that they will stay for the whole testing period. If they

finish early they will be allowed to read quietly until the time is up.

o If they perform poorly on the assessment because they blew through it, we

will have to assume that they are struggling with the content. The state of

Kansas does not differentiate between a poor result because of

carelessness or inattentiveness, and one due to gaps in skills.

Math Tips; to Minimize Silly Mistakes:

Practice using a hand-held calculator, when allowed

o Bring the calculator to the state assessments and use it on the

sections that are allowed, you will make less mistakes this way!

o Practice getting your answers, on paper…write your work out

o Fill the page

o Be organized about it

Moons” by Sharon Creech.

This is an English A or B, K12 novel, so will apply towards daily literature

lessons.

Attacking Multiple Choice Questions

Look at the title, headings, subheadings, graphics and other

features. Try to predict what it is about. Read all of the questions Read the text, highlighting any sections that seem important Reread each question and find the answer Proof of Thought – highlight the text that answers a question

and write the question number beside the text Check to be sure that you have answered every question. Do not assume that if the answer to two or three parts of one

question are together and there is no response to the other questions that it is “No.” The answer may be in another section of the reading.

When answering vocabulary & text structures questions, go back and reread the passage out of the full text.
