Rammed Aggregate Pier elements are constructed by drilling a cavity (Geopier replacement process) ordriving a hollow mandrel (Impact or Rampact displacement processes) to the design depth and rammingselect aggregate in thin lifts. Rammed Aggregate Pier (RAP) construction results in very dense aggregate pused to reinforce soft soils and fill for support of large diameter storage tanks and industrial foundations.

    1. The process begins by drilling a hole (Geopier) up to 30 feet or driving a hollow mandrel (Impact orRampact) to design depths up to 45 feet. The Geopier process allows for visual inspection of the spoilsbetween borings, confirming the reinforcement of poor soils. The Impact and Rampact processes aredisplacement approaches that are well-suited in high groundwater conditions. The installation processeliminates spoils and the risk of casing while significantly improving granular soils.

    2. Layers of aggregate are placed into the cavity and compacted in thin lifts. A patented beveled tamperrams each layer of aggregate using static downforce and vertical impact ramming energy, resulting in

superior strength and stiness. The tamper densifies aggregate vertically and forces aggregate lateralinto the loose or soft matrix soil. This results in improved soil stiness and excellent coupling withsurrounding soils to deliver highly reliable settlement control.

    3. Following installation, the Rammed Aggregate Pier (RAP) systems support tanks, mats, industrialfoundations and floor slabs eliminating the need for deep foundation or overexcavation and replacemeLoads are concentrated to the sti piers, resulting in improved bearing support and engineeredsettlement control.

    Improves Edge Stability

Construction of industrial tanks results in high shearing stresses at the

edges of tanks. In weak soils, high applied edge pressures may result inedge instability, dierential settlement and mushrooming of the tankshell. Friction angles of 50 degrees allow RAP elements to improve shearresistance, preventing mushrooming and improving edge

    stability problems.

    Settlement Control

RAP solutions demonstrate superior strength and stiness to providedemonstrated settlement control of tanks, mats, shallow foundationsand other structures. The system is engineered to provide a cost-eectiveapproach to meet both total and dierential settlement requirements.

Our engineered solutions and site specific modulus testing combined withthe experience of providing settlement control for hundreds of heavytanks, provide an unmatched level of support and reliability.

    Accelerated Construction Schedule

The RAP system is installed at rates of 30 to 60 per day or more. The rapidinstallation rate significantly reduces the construction schedule comparedto deep foundations, overexcavation and replacement or other forms ofground improvement. High production rates combined with our uniqueability to work in inclement weather aords both time and cost savings onyour project.
