Miles, Angie and I attended the District’s Mid Year Status meeting this last Saturday, Jan. 19th. It appears that some clubs are having very good success with recruiting new members as the District total is up to 117 new members.

Miles Yamamoto and I now have a supply of registration forms for the District conference to be held in South Lake Tahoe, April 26th through the 28th. The conference will be at Caesars Hotel. The hotel should be contacted directly for reservations although some folks are talking about staying at rented cabins instead. Whichever you prefer is fine. The Golf tournament will be Thursday, April 25th over in the Carson valley near Genoa. Make your plans and reservations as soon as possible. According to the news from the other clubs, a lot of people are planning on attending and there are only a limited number of rooms at Caesars at the special Rotary rates. See Miles or myself for your form.

We also received some updated information on the Rotary License Plate program for the State of California as follows:

1) The initial program is to sign up 7500 vehicles (not just one per Rotarian) this year. Thereafter, each year, additional people can/will sign up as the special Rotary plate gains recognition. There is no requirement that the owner of the vehicle has to be a Rotarian.

2) Each Rotarian can sign up multiple vehicles, family members, and friends. One Rotarian has signed up their 15 business owned trucks. The licenses can be for car, truck or trailer.

3) The first year the fee will be an additional $75 above the usual vehicle license fee. $50 of this will come back to Rotary.

4) The money will be divided amongst the clubs based on the club’s participation as a percentage of the total number of vehicles licensed.

5) The funds are to be used for Community Service projects. 6) After the first year, there is a $40 add on fee per vehicle of which $26 will come back to Rotary and

again will be disbursed to the clubs based on the ORIGINAL percentages. In these following years it is expected that the total dollars will continue to increase as more and more people sign up for the licenses.

Based on only 7500 vehicles in the first year, there will be $375,000 paid back to Rotary to use towards Community Service projects. If our club where to register 75 vehicles, we would have $3750 come back to our local coffers. Think about it.
