In early 2009, Gi Group made a

buying the majority of shares in Barnett
McCall Recruitment (BMR), one of the
leading HR solutions providers in
Romania. BMR was established in
Romania in 1999 and has helped

Directive 2008/104/EC, containing
significant improvements which now
grant companies active in Romania far
freer access to flexible workforce
solutions. The most important changes
that guarantee flexibility and a more
competitive edge to any company,
irrespective of industry and size, are:
• Cancellation of restrictions for using
temporary staffing (Art. 88) – A
company can now request and use
temporary staffing through a Temporary
Work Agency (TWA) for any reason -
increase of activity, replacing employees
with suspended employment contracts,
seasonal peaks, occasional or speci-
alized activities etc. It remains that
temporary workers cannot replace
employees who are on strike.
• Improvements regarding the exten-
sions to the duration of a temporary
mission assignment and number of
allowed prolongations (Art. 89) – the
maximum initial duration of a a
temporary assignment can be of 24

Our experience has taught us that local
and regional knowledge are essential in
penetrating markets and activating

Gi Group currently has six permanent
offices in Romania - Bucharest (1999),
Timisoara (2006), Cluj-Napoca (2007),
Oradea (2007), Arad (2010), and
Brasov (2010) with identical portfolio of

In addition, for the implementation and
management of a series of temporary
assignments, an in-plant office was
