You receive 20 free skill ranks in the favored skill categories for your profession, when you first enter the profession. Your profession may also give you special talents and access to spells.You can add a new profession later on, by spending 20 DP. (15 for those with the Profession Adaptability talent.) (Enter this in the Other Bonus column on the Skill sheet.)Step 2b: Allocate your free skill ranks.You can do this now, or put it off till later. To select your skill ranks, go to the Skills tab (found at the bottom of the screen). Enter the number of ranks you want for each skill in the Prof (Profession) column. For each of your profession's favored skill categories, the number of Prof Ranks will be listed next to the name of the skill category. The total number of free ranks you have allocated so far is displayed in the upper left corner.You also have 5 bonus skill ranks (from your race or a blood talent), for a total of 25 skill ranks.Remember that a first level character can never have more than 6 ranks in any one skill.Step 2c: OPTIONAL College of Magics: Source and Casting TypeIf using the rules from College of Magics regarding mana sources and spell focus style, make those selections here. You can later add additional types as talents, but your first choices are free.(If you choose the Mana Source "Personal" and the Spell Focus Styles "Gestural" and "Verbal", this works exactly like the core HARP rules.) If you haven't taken ANY spells, you can change these for free, even after 1st level. Once you've learned any spells at all, you can only add sources and styles by taking talents.Mana Source:Spell Focus Styles:Mana source link:1Focus style link 1:1Focus style link 2:5This is the normal method. Casting takes 1 round per 5 PP, recovers 1/4 PP in two hours.Hand gestures (-50 if no hands free).Spoken incantation (-50 if can't speak).Talent:Tap Personal ManaTalents:Focus Style (Gestural)Focus Style (Verbal)Focus Items:A focus item is a minor magic item that you use to help direct and focus your magic. Not all mages use one, but it is an option. A focus item can be a wand, a staff, a holy symbol, or even a weapon (an especially good option for a Warrior Mage). To start with a focus item, select it under Special Items in Step 4, below. If you use a focus item, all your spell-casting will be modified by +5, but all casting without the item will be at -5. Check the box below to indicate you use a focus item, in which case the +5 will be added to all your spells -- but you'll need to subtract 10 when casting without the item (-5 for not having the item, and another -5 to remove the +5 already added).Cell LinkFAUXStep 3: Determine your stats.There are three possible methods to determine your stats. Ask your GM which method(s) you may use.Option 1:Roll percentile dice 8 times, and assign the rolls to stats however you wish. Reroll anything below 40.Option 2: Allocate 550 points between your stats.Option 3:Allocate 500+10d10 points between your stats.To enter your stats, go to the Stats page and fill them in. If you are using Option 2 or 3, the total point value of your selected stats is displayed to the right of the character sheet.Each Stat has a Stat bonus which applies to any related skill. Stats also determine how many Development Points (DP) you have to purchase your skills and talents, so you need to do this before continuing to the next step. And, stats help define the strengths and weaknesses of your character.Step 4: Pick your skills and talents.You have a total of 38 DP to spend on skills and talents.Skillscost 2 DP per rank for your favored categories and 4 DP per rank for all other skills. Enter the number of ranks you wish to buy in the DP column on the skills page, next to the skill you want. Remember, a first level character can have no more than 6 ranks in any skill.If you are developing a Training Package, enter the skill ranks from the TP in the TP column on the skill page. Enter the ranks even if they would put you above the normal rank limit (the sheet will impose the limit, but you still have to pay for every rank in the TP, whether you receive it or not).Spells are developed exactly as skills. Note that you can only purchase ranks in a spell if it belongs to a Sphere accessible to the profession you are developing (except that everyone may develop spells from the Universal Sphere), or if you have the talent Arcane Power for its Sphere. Each spell lists its base cost (in parenthesis after its name), which is also the minimum number of ranks you must have in the spell to cast it.Talents:if you wish to add a Talent, select it here, and then click the Add Talent button. The talent will be added to the Stats page, the total DP spent on talents will be updated, and the selection box will reset. Note that bonuses for all talents except Skill Specialization will be added automatically. (Including Giantism and Instinctive Defense.) For Skill Specialization, add the bonus in the Other column on the Skills sheet. If you enter the weight (in pounds) in the Wt column, it will be used to calculate encumbrance.If you have any encumbrance or armor penalty, it will be used to modify all skills with an Agility or Quickness stat modifier. Instead of a single total (e.g. +23), these will be shown with two totals (e.g. +23/-12). The number before the slash is the unmodified total; the number after the slash is the skill with the encumbrance and armor penalties applied.Step 6: Final touches.On the Stats page, you can fill in remaining details, such as your character's name, hair and eye color, weight, height (in inches), and so forth. Many of these are simply informational, although a few are used for calculations (for example, your base movement rate cannot be calculated until you have entered your character's height in inches).Step 7: Printing it out.The buttons below can be used to print your character sheet. Print Stats prints the Stats page, Print Skills prints the compact skill list (the PrintSkills sheet), and Print All prints out the Stats page as well as the formatted skill list.Going Up LevelsFirst, click this button to prepare the sheet for a new level by clearing all DP costs from your last level. (Use the button on the right if you want to develop the same skills again -- especially useful for generating higher level characters and NPCs.)Are you adding a new profession? Make sure the right one is selected, and then click the button to increment your level (as listed on your character sheet).Current Level:2Cell link:1Magic?0Profession:FighterAfter you have clicked the Raise Level button, go to Step 4, above, and use your DP to purchase talents, fate points, increased stats and skills. (Only new characters get free skill ranks, so all your skills are purchased with DP.) Skills are added on the Skills sheet. If your armor or shield have changed, go to Step 5 and update them there. Then, go to Step 7 and print out your revised character sheet. That's it!Racial TemplatesThis option allows you to add a special racial template which modifies your character's race rather than replacing it. Mostly, these are intended to be used to make undead and lycanthrope characters. Stat bonuses will be applied immediately for the selected template, talents will be added when you click the "Add Template's Talents" button. To remove a template, change this back to "None" and remove the talents from the Stats page (this will not happen automatically). Also note that Undead templates REPLACE your racial Endurance, PP, and RR bonuses; Lycanthrope templates do not modify your racial bonuses in these areas.Template:Cell link:1NoneTemplate Talents:Advanced: Customizing the spreadsheetIf you are familiar with Excel, you'll find it easy to make minor changes and additions to this spreadsheet. The sheet is protected to prevent accidental overwriting of formulas, but you can unlock it by going to Tools/Protection/Unprotect Sheet. (I recommend you turn protection back on once you are done making changes.) In most cases, data is formatted in boxes, and if you add additional entries to a table within the lines, the formulas in the spreadsheet will use what you have added. Here are notes on how to make some simple additions:Adding skills or spells:You can insert lines on the Skills sheet, then copy an existing skill from the same category and change its name. You'll also want to check that you haven't copied adolescence ranks on the culture table. (Also, if you add lines in the Artistic, Athletic, or beginning of the Combat categories, you may need to fix the culture list to the right.)Adding/changing professions:Information for professions is stored in two places. There is a table to the right of the skills which has both profession and culture data. The numbers in the same rows as the skill category names are the number of free skill ranks the profession receives in each skill category.On the tables sheet, there is a second table. The profession names must match those on the first table. Then, there are the key stats, two columns that hold names of talents included with the profession, a column for other special abilities, and a column with 1 for magic-using professions or 0 for non-magic professions.Adding/changing cultures:The culture data is all in the table to the right of the skills. The numbers in the same rows as the skills (not the skill category rows) are the number of adolescence ranks received by members of the culture.Adding/changing races:The racial data is in a table on the Tables sheet. Follow the format and keep all entries within the lines, and your race will work (both as a race and as a blood talent option for other races).Adding/changing armor and shield types:These are contained in tables on the Tables sheet. Add new items inside the boxes and they will be used.Adding talents:Talents are listed on the Talents page, with a name, DP cost, and brief description. You can insert additional rows so you have more room to add talents inside the box. Column E (titled "Known?") indicates whether the Talent is known by the character or not, and is used to automatically add bonuses. (A few check for double talents, like Lightning Reflexes and Enhanced Senses.) If you wish to add similar automatic bonuses, copy the contents of column E in another row and paste it here, then name the cell and make appropriate additions on the skills sheet. But the sheet will also work fine if you omit it.You can add new special items just like Talents. (In this case the "Known?" column is not used for anything.)The talents listed below the special items may not be purchased, but are used to track automatic bonuses from racial/blood talents. Just leave them there and ignore them. (Additional Profession is also listed here, since it is handled differently than other talents.)
