R E : HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP GRANT TO INDIGENOUS GIRL SCOUTS
DATE : FEBRUARY 12, 2013
Education is a basic right of every child. Yet, in the Philippines, many children are deprived of this right
because of poverty.
A number of children stay illiterate and uneducated
because of lack of education. Only very few complete high
school and a handful lucky ones finish college. This is the
sad reality that confronts children from the indigenous
communities. Aside from poverty, there are varied factors
that prevent them to pursue their studies like difficulty of
going to school because of distance and impassable roads.
They even climb mountains and cross rivers to go to
school. Others are forced to work in rice fields to help their
parents and many others suffer from poor health and
nutrition.
To address the educational concerns of Girl Scouts in
indigenous communities, the GSP Central Board approved
at its meeting of January 25, 2013 a s c h o l a r s h i p p r o g r a mf o r i n d i g e n o u s G i r l S c o u t s f r o m t h e s i x G i r l S c o u t i n gr e g i o n s
