Announcing the CB14, CB14 XW and CB14 Full Flush Vibratory Utility Compactors (updated versions)
Caterpillar announces the availability of the updated versions of the CB14, CB14 XW and CB14
Full Flush Vibratory Utility Compactors (UCOMs). These updated versions maintain many of the field-proven features and design of the previous model. They are versatile and highly
maneuverable compactors for soil, asphalt or base compaction making them ideal for commercial
site preparation, landscaping, small soil applications, patching, driveways, city streets, roads,
alleys, parks, and recreation areas. In these applications, the tight turning radius and easy
maneuverability make them an ideal piece of machinery.
There are two main differences between the new versions and the previous CB14 versions. The new versions are equipped with the new C1.1 engine that meets EU Stage IIIa emission requirements whereas the previous model only met EU Stage II requirements. The engine hood

has also been redesigned to provide improved visibility to the drum edges and front of the
machine.
Marketing Strategy The new CB14 UCOMs like the previous models are designed to provide low lifetime operating costs. They feature heavy-duty designs with proven components that
perform year-round. These machines as well as their components require limited service, reducing
downtime. The water spray system utilizes corrosion-proof components with spray bars that can be
easily cleaned.
These new machines also include an increased parts commonality with the rest of the Caterpillar
UCOM lineup. The operator station configuration, sliding seat, hydraulic propel lever, access to the
water filling port and foldable ROPS are similar to other Caterpillar UCOMs. The vibratory system
provides good performance on asphalt and soil applications.
In addition to the primary criteria for buying road construction equipment such as reliability,
durability, serviceability and product support, prospective customers also look for equipment that
includes the following features:
Extended Operational Uptime Large fuel and water capacities provide a long operating interval
High Performance Cat C1.1 engine and dual hydrostatic drum drives provide good power and traction
Simple Operation A roomy operating environment with easy-to-understand controls and optimum visibility to the
drum edges and front of the machine provides simple operation. Best-in-class platform isolation
promotes operator comfort.
Reliable Designs Common designs with larger rollers have proven reliability
Minimum Service Costs Increased service intervals and easy maintenance access reduces overall maintenance cost for
the contractor
Spec chart Detailed specification charts showing how the CB14 models compare to competition are attached.

Features
Engine The C1.1 engine is a 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, with a rated output of 16.1 kW (22 hp)
operating at 2,400 rpm providing lower sound levels and lower fuel consumption. This engine is
certified for EU Stage IIIa emission requirements. The C1.1 engine requires a 500-hour oil change
interval that is the best in-class among competitors.
Machine travel speed is 8.5 km/h.
Vibratory System The standard CB14 incorporates a compaction width of 800 mm and features two driving drums for
good control. The CB14 XW (Extra Wide) version provides a compaction width of 1000 mm. The
added compaction width provides increased productivity and ensures an optimum compaction
result in fewer passes.
The CB14 Full Flush incorporates a 900 mm offset, front-driving drum. The front offset drum
provides flush compaction capabilities on the right side of the machine when working close to
walls, curbs, or other vertical obstructions.
Visibility to the offset drum edge provides the operator with good control when working near
objects.
The CB14 vibratory system generates a frequency of 53.3 Hz. The CB14 and CB14 XW provide
two vibratory modes, front-drum-only or both drums. The CB14 Full Flush features vibration on the
rear-drum-only. With their optimum centrifugal force, frequency, and amplitude, the CB14 can
reach density requirements in only a few passes.
These machines include a standard auto-vibe function in order to stop drum vibration when the
propel lever is in the neutral position. This function also limits undesired waves on the mat surface
that can be caused when changing direction. The standard auto-vibe system also prevents the
machine from being started when the vibratory switch is in the activated position.
Water Spray System The standard water spray system is gravity fed and utilizes corrosion-free plastic spray bars that
provide optimum water coverage on both drums.

The optional pressurized water spray system allows water to be evenly sprayed over the drums.
Spray modes are constant, off or intermittent. The intermittent mode conserves water and is useful
on cool days or cooler mixes. The system is fed by a 150 L water tank, located under the
operators seat. The extended life water pump and filters are conveniently located for easy access
while providing optimum spray and flow. Triple water filtration reduces machine downtime caused
by system clogs.
Operator Station The CB14 provides a comfortable and convenient operating environment that contributes to the
versatility and productivity of the machine.
The CB14 machines are equipped with a durable suspension seat. The suspension seat provides
fore/aft, height, and weight adjustments. The seat can be equipped with an optional operator
presence switch that prevents movement of the machine if the operator is not seated.
The control console incorporates a steering wheel with steering knob, vibratory drum selector
switch, horn, engine start switch with preheat, and the parking brake.
The hydraulic propel lever is conveniently positioned to the right of the seat. A switch located on
top of the propel lever activates the vibratory system.
Rubber isolation mounts located on the base of the operator's platform and under the seat reduce
vibration transmitted to the operators station and the operator.
The redesigned engine hood slopes downward, away from the operator, enhancing forward
visibility. Rearward visibility allows the operator to see objects that are directly behind the machine
and flush to the surface. The CB14 can be equipped with a foldable ROPS that can be lowered
without the use of tools. The foldable ROPS can be folded in both directions.
The instrument panel and the engine compartment are protected with lockable covers to prevent
vandalism.
Serviceability The CB14 models are designed for ease and speed of service. A wide opening engine hood
provides superior access to main machine components.
Extended life oils increase maintenance intervals for the vibratory system, hydraulic system, and
engine. A remote-mounted drain for the engine oil simplifies collection of fluids.

The quick connect hydraulic test ports simplify system diagnosis.
The instrument panel on the control console is equipped with warning lights for the parking brake,
alternator, engine oil pressure and hydraulic oil pressure in order to easily verify the status of the
machine systems.
The 12-volt electrical system is protected with Caterpillar harnesses. The electrical wiring is color-
coded, and numbered for easy troubleshooting.
Nylon-braided wrap and all-weather connectors ensure electrical system integrity even after
pressure washing.
Optional Attachments The CB14 models utilize many optional attachments that are also featured on other Caterpillar
UCOMs for increased commonality throughout this range.
