GLENTUNNEL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Friday 8 June 2018

Tena koutou katoa parents and caregivers, Well done to all the students who challenged themselves at the Malvern Cross Country today. I was super impressed by how you all gave it your best under the muddy course conditions. I hope you all feel proud of your achievements.

Next Monday the 11th of June we will be having a special assembly at school for the students who have presented the best speeches in their class/year group. The assembly will be starting at 2:30 pm. These students will go on to participate in the Malvern Speech competition being held at Darfield on the 14th of June. If you can make it we would love to see you at school to support these students.

Next week on Wednesday the 13th of June we will be joined by Hororata School at the Glentunnel Hall to enjoy a show from the Court theatre. The show we will be watching is called He Kura

Korero. Inviting the court theatre to come and share their latest show with us and neighbouring schools has become an annual event for our school. They are always highly entertaining and very engaging for our students. We look forward to another great morning of entertainment next week. On Wednesday next week we also have some students competing in the Canterbury Gymnastics competition. They have been practising regularly at school with Mrs Sutherland in order to learn the routines for the competition. A big thank you to Mrs Sutherland for the time and effort she puts into supporting these students to achieve their potential at this competition. I look forward to hearing how all the students performed at the competition and await a full report next Thursday.

You would have noticed a drop in the temperature lately and the snow accumulating on the surrounding mountains. These are hopefully signs of a wonderful ski season this year. Next term the Year 4 – 6 students will be travelling to Mt Hutt for four fun filled days of skiing. Next week I will be sending home

information about the ski trips and a form for parents to complete if they are able to help manage students on the day and provide transport. I’m sending them out now so I can gather the information needed to start planning the logistics at the start of next term. Look out for the forms next week!

We have lots of first timers on the Sale Yards roster over the next few weeks, so here are a couple of things you should know - 1) Please can you have your baking at school by 8.15 or the night before is OK. 2) If you are on to cook with me please wrap up, we are outside, wear comfy footwear as stand on

concrete. 3) Bring a crossword or something as with four different sales going on you get down time. A few parents have offered to make soup—this would be greatly appreciated. Please ring Juanita on 3188 122 if you can help out. We no longer have the chest freezer so I will need to collect it. Thanks!
