SOL-AR™ Approved Applicator Conditions
To receive and maintain status as an approved applicator for Sol-ar™ powder coatings, the coater will be audited by a qualified Protech/Oxyplast representative on a biannual basis (6 month intervals). The audit program will include the checklist items listed below. Items related to surface preparation shall be reviewed in conjunction with the pretreatment supplier.
Product Guarantee
Claims Procedure
Claims under warranty (under guarantee) must be submitted in writing according to our claims procedure. A written specification must be submitted to Protech/Oxyplast within four (4) weeks of the detection of any perceived defect.
In the event of a claim under warranty, the approved applicator must submit valid documentation. Records required include, but are not limited to:
- Chemical wash tank titration records and coating weight (chemical supplier recommendations)- Production records with the following:
• Powder lot number and storage conditions• Date of manufacture• Quality control panels• Oven data
- Certificate of analysis (COA) of the aluminium substrate- Maintenance records
• Production, oven records, quality control data and procedures- Building or particular objects affected by the claim

30 YEAR WARRANTY
Protech/Oxyplast warrants that the Sol-arTM series of powder coatings produced by Protech/Oxyplast or by any of our licensees, will meet or exceed the performance requirements of GSB, Qualicoat and AAMA 2605 and will maintain film integrity for a minimum of thirty years with
normal levels of fading, gloss reduction and chalking.
Sol-arTM high performance powder coatings are engineered to meet or exceed the performance requirements set forth in the “Voluntary Specification, Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for Superior Performing Organic Coatings on Aluminium Extrusions and Panels” - American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA 2605). This specification calls for Florida exposure south of latitude 27° North at a 45° angle facing south for a minimum of ten years with a minimum of 50% gloss retention (ASTM 523) and a maximum delta E color change
of 5.0 units (Hunter) ASTM D2244.
Corrosion resistance and adhesion are a direct function of pretreatment and metal preparation conditions. Therefore, all surface preparation, pretreatment and application procedures must be performed and carried out by approved applicators in strict conformity with Protech/Oxy-plast’s instructions and product data sheets. The recommended procedures set forth in AAMA 2605, and all other written specifications, including maintenance and cleaning, must be met. A multi-stage cleaning and pretreatment system is required to remove organic and inorganic surface soils, remove residual oxides, and apply a chemical conversion coating to which organic
coatings will firmly adhere.
The Sol-arTM high performance series demonstrates the best weatherability in its class when properly applied and fully cured on pretreated substrates conforming to Sol-arTM pretreatment specifications. Our technical advice, whether verbal or in writing, is given in good faith. It does not release the purchaser or the applicator from testing the products as to their suitability for
the particular application.
This warranty is subject to terms, conditions and limitations. Protech/Oxyplast warrants the customer but not to any successor or assignee of the customer.

Product Overview
Storage Conditions and Shelf Life
Powder coatings should not be subjected to extreme temperatures or high humidity. Exposure to heat and humidity can result in powder agglomeration, application difficulties, and film defects such as excess orange peel and pinholes.
We recommend storing powder coatings at a maximum temperature of 27° C (80° F) and at no more than 55% RH. This will ensure a consistent free-flowing powder. Under these conditions most powder coatings will have a typical shelf life of at least 12 months. Refer to a specific product’s Technical Data Sheet for pertinent information.
Florida Exposure DataProtech/Oxyplast Sol-arTM powder coatings meet the strict requirements of AAMA 2605 which details specific Florida exposure requirements. Florida weathering is an international benchmark for comparative testing of weathering performance. High-intensity sunlight, high temperatures, abundant rainfall, and very high humidity combine to create the harsh climate that makes Florida the ideal location for testing exterior durability and performance characteristics such as colour retention, gloss retention, chalk resistance, mildew resistance, film integrity, and cleanability.

Performance
The performance of the standard and super durable polyesters under UV exposure can be colour dependant and may show different results under the same testing conditions. The performance of Sol-arTM powder coatings will be marginally affected by colour and gloss.

Surface preparation is the single most important aspect of the powder finishing system. The performance capabilities of any given coating are directly affected by the quality of the surface preparation. Poor surface preparation can lead to film failures or delamination. The correct choice of pretreatment processes and chemistries is essential to ensure long term film performance.
Surface Preparation For Aluminium Chromating
Chromating is the conversion coating process most frequently used for aluminium substrates prior to powder coating. For an optimum balance of adhesion and corrosion resistance, the thickness of the chromate layer must be uniform. AAMA recommends a minimum of 431 mg/m2 or 40 mg/ft2. Excess chromate thickness may result in delamination.
Below is a typical chromating process prior to powder coating aluminium:
1. Degreasing2. Rinsing3. Etching4. Rinsing5. Deoxidization6. Rinsing (double rinsing)7. Chromating8. Rinsing (double rinsing)9. Drying
For best results, consult with your pretreatment chemicals supplier for specific product and process recommendations.
Non-chromate pretreatment systems are available. Consult with your pretreatment chemicals supplier for specific product and process recommendations.
