• Global Network for Research in Negative Ions- Research and Project Development in Year 2013. • U. Berzinsh• Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy, University of Latvia, Riga, Latvia• E-mail: ( [email protected] )• I’ll present the collaboration between groups working with negative ions in Latvia, Sweden,

Germany, USA, and Mexico. Historically this network started to expand from Gothenburg University Negative Ion Laboratory (GUNILA) [1] and now two large scale facilities: Berkeley National Laboratory Synchrotron Ring in USA and DESIREE (Double ElectroStatic Ion Ring ExpEriment) in Stockholm are part of it. As well groups in Universities of Freiburg, University of Mains, and University of Mexico are participants. In year 2013 we participated in this network in three directions: 1) Building the Gothenburg Riga Ion Beam Apparatus (GRIBA), 2) Participation in tests of PEARLS, see for the method [3], 3) performing experiments in Stockholm University and Freiburg University.

Advancements towards novel photoionization research infrastructure:

• A novel photoelectron spectrometer Photoelectron Energy and Angle Resolved Longitudinal Spectrometer (PEARLS) will be designed for merged ion and photon beams

• Upgrade of GRIBA introducing the radiofrequency ICP plasma ion spray chamber.

• Upgrade of GRIBA introducing the radiofrequency ICP plasma ion spray chamber.

• Testing the option of use of femtosecond laser in the lab in Riga in order to perform the investigations of multi photon processes.

Extensive investigations of the photoionisation process for various atoms and molecules using the newly developed

equipment

• photoelectron angular distribution measured for a positive ion e.g., Cu+, Cr+ and several others;

• study the structure of other negative ions of astrophysical interest, e.g.; C3N−, HCN- CN−, H2S-, and SH-;

• investigation of rotational spectra of polar molecules, and the electronic spectra of C2-.

Measurements of lifetimes of bound excited states in negative ions using the electrostatic storage ring

DESIREE at the Stockholm University

• Lifetimes of long-lived excited states in negative atomic ions using the extremely long ion storage capability of DESIREE

• Lifetimes of long lived excited states in molecular anionsThe inherent stabilities of dianionic systems.

• Stabilities of cluster anions.• Studies of the photofragmentation of PAHs and

bio-molecular systems
