WHAT IS POPULATION DENSITY?

• A population is a summation of all the organisms of the same group or species, which live in a particular geographical area, and have the capability of interbreeding.

• Population density (in agriculture: standing stock and standing crop) is a measurement of population per unit area or unit volume; it is a quantity of type number density. It is frequently applied to living organisms, and most of the time to humans. It's a key geographical term.

GLOBAL EFFECTS OF OVER POPULATION

• Overpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of existing

human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth.

• Overpopulation is caused by number of factors.

1. Reduced mortality rate

2. better medical facilities

• Since the time of the Bubonic Plague in the 1400’s, the growth of population

has been on a constant increase.

• Between the time of the plague and the 21st century, there was been hundreds

and thousands of wars, natural calamities and man-made hazards. However,

none of these have made a dent on the population.

CAUSES OF OVERPOPULATION

• Decline in the Death Rate

• Better Medical Facilities

• More Hands to Overcome Poverty

• Technological Advancement in Fertility Treatment

• Immigration

• Lack of Family Planning

EFFECTS OF OVERPOPULATION

• Depletion of Natural Resources

• Degradation of Environment

• Conflicts and Wars

• Rise in Unemployment

• High Cost of Living

WHAT IS LAND USE PATTERN?

• Land use involves the management and modification of natural environment or wilderness into built environment such as settlements and semi-natural habitats such as arable fields, pastures, and managed woods.

• It also has been defined as "the total of arrangements, activities, and inputs that people undertake in a certain land cover type

Land use pattern relates to the physical characteristics of land, the institutional and other resources framework like labor, capital available

FACTORS AFFECTING LAND USE PATTERNS

• Size of human and livestock

population

• The demand pattern

• The technology in use

• The cultural traditions,

• The location and capability of land

• Institutional factors like ownership

pattern and rights and state

regulation

SOLUTIONS TO OVER POPULATION

Better Education:

One of the first measures is to implement policies reflecting social change.

Educating the masses helps them understand the need to have one or two children

at the most. Families that are facing a hard life and choose to have four or five

children should be discouraged.

Making People Aware of Family Planning:

As population of this world is growing at a rapid pace, raising awareness among

people regarding family planning and letting them know about serious after effects

of overpopulation can help curb population growth.

Tax Benefits or Concessions: Government of various countries might have to come with various policies related to tax exemptions to curb overpopulation. One of them might be to waive of certain part of income tax or lowering rates of income tax for those married couples who have single or two children. As we humans are more inclined towards money, this may produce some positive results.
