The blog provides the space to hang out and

communicate with different teddy bears

around the world and to hear about their

lives and adventures. This will allow our

students to see each other’s countries,

customs and traditions through the eyes of

the “teddy bears” and open their horizons

through a more global perspective.

The idea is to have an ongoing exchange (no

deadlines, no pressure) to contribute

stories, photographs, videos or podcasts.

Make it a routine in your classroom to check the Teddy Bear blog on a regular basis. Read

the entries from around the world and compare and contrast their traditions or

stories with your own.

Look at the pictures and predict what the post might be about. Use the Teddy Bear

images from one or several posts as a story starter and discuss or write a new story.

Use the categories of the blog to read specific entries from one country or

continent to learn more about their way of life .

Commenting takes you and your students from simply being a "consumer" of content

(created by others) to interacting and conversing.

Commenting is the first step to writing for a global audience. As a member of Teddy Bears Around the World blog, you have a username

to be able to leave comments.

Together with your students, take a look at the video "Quality Commenting" created by

3rd graders - http://vimeo.com/19444542

If you have written a post, make sure you monitor the comments left by others and

continue the conversation.

Learning how to write is a critical skill and part of EVERY elementary school

curriculum. The writing process of pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing,

evaluating and publishing is continually being reinforced as your students write a

blog post (as a class or individually).

Additional skills, such as hyperlinked writing, visual and media enhanced writing,

as well as writing for a global, authentic audience amplify and upgrade the writing

process in the traditional sense and prepare students for 21st century skills

and literacies.
