National Doctors Day

Thank you to all of you for your dedication and hard work.

Commingled Recycling Comes to the Onalaska Campus

Gundersen Health System has implemented a commingled recycling program which is intended to make recycling easier for patients, staff and visitors. There are no longer multiple recycling bins to sort recycling into; all recycling is now put into a single recycling bin. The recycling is sorted downstream at the recycling plant.

Please note that anything that is exposed to patient body fluids

will not be recycled as it poses a threat to Gundersen employees

and anyone handling the recycling downstream.

The Onalaska Campus recycling bins have now all been switched over to the commingled recycling bins. Below is a list of Dos and Donts for recycling in the bins:

*Gundersen will continue to use the confidential paper bins as required by HIPPA

Due to recent Joint Commission and CMS findings along with compliance to many other regulatory agencies it is no longer appropriate for employees to collect recyclable material for department fun funds or take them home for recycling. These types of collections can pose an infection control issue. This requirement is outlined in the Fac-7010 Scrap Removal Policy.

As a result of this regulation Gundersen Health Systems will no longer be able to collect aluminum cans separately for the Cans for Kids program to benefit the Children Miracle Network Hospitals Program. Instead Gundersen will be giving CMN Hospitals a portion of the total rebate check they receive for the Gundersen recycling program.

If you have any items that you feel should be recycled and want to confirm that it is recyclable please contact the Environmental Compliance Technician, Andy Kragness, at [email protected] or extension 54211 or the Sustainability Coordinator, Tom Thompson, at [email protected] or extension 54843.

Honor a Practitioner for Doctors Day

In celebration of Doctors Day, Gundersen Medical Foundation invites staff, patients, patients families and other benefactors to make a contribution in honor of doctors or other medical professionals who have touched their lives in a special way.

Your gift will not only serve as a meaningful tribute to your favorite doctor or other medical provider, but will help advance the Foundations mission to enhance patient care through the support of education, research and community outreach efforts.

Without specifying your gift amount, we will send an acknowledgement card that includes your personal message to each provider you choose to recognize. All those honored will be listed in Bridges and on a special Doctors Day tribute webpage.

To participate, use the Gifts of Gratitude brochure available at each Information Desk and also in each floors waiting room. You can also go to gundersenhealth.org/gratitude to download the online form. For questions, call the Foundation at ext. 56600.

Nursing Research on the Green

Thursday, April 27 Viterbo University

Nursing Research on the Green is a forum for recognizing nursing scholarship and sharing research and clinical practice innovations. It is designed for nurses working in any setting, as well as for nursing students. Its purpose is to promote utilization of evidence-based practice and research through the dissemination of research findings and sharing of innovative ideas. Nursing Contact Hours are available for those interested.

Teddie Potter, PhD RN FAAN, is the keynote speaker at this years event and will deliver her address, Better than a Robot? Prove It!. Nurses and colleagues from the

La Crosse area are invited to attend and meet Dr. Potter.

Keynote Overview: Nurses frequently struggle to communicate the value of their unique contribution to the interprofessional team and to healing. That is a grave concern in this day of growing technological sophistication and artificial intelligence. What can nurses do that robots will never be able to do? Nurses must be prepared to answer that question.

This FREE event will also feature various breakout sessions, poster presentations by area nurses and the presentation of the Dahlberg Scholar Award. For more about this event information or to sign-up visit the Nursing website

Looking for any fun items a child would enjoy; individual wrapped candy.
