In order to achieve uniformity and to avoid the confusion which arises from the use in reports, returns, etc., of irregular or ambiguous abbreviations of the titles and specialist qualifications of R.N. ratin~ and. R.M, other Tanles, standard lists of the titles of ratings and R.M. other rank$, of specialist qualifications, and of official abbreviations for these titles I!lld .quaUficadoDS have been . p~d and arc promulgated for general guidance as Appendices A and B to this Order.
2. These titles and abbicviations arc to be used in all communications, reports , re~ums, etc.
3. 11le order in which the branches appear is arml importance and the standard. order, as given in the Appcndiocs, is to be used for all purposes, schemes ofcomplemeot, complement returns, nomi.nal lists, regulations and mobilisation requirements, For instance, if a list of requirements commences with Seamen, Sjgnalmen, E.R.As. Mechanicians, it should be safe.to assume that Sa.ilmakers and Telegraphists are not required. It should not be necessary to search through every list "and form in case .a Sailmaker has been inserted among the Artisans or Cooks. A further advantage will be that should the instructions be received with a part of the text mutilated, or with abbreviations mi5quoted, the meaning should be clear provided that the correct order has been maintained.
