Standards are principle-focused and provide a framework for performing and promoting internal

auditing. The Standards are mandatory requirements consisting of:

Statements of basic requirements for the professional practice of internal auditing and for

evaluating the effectiveness of its performance. The requirements are internationally applicable

at organizational and individual levels.

Interpretations, which clarify terms or concepts within the statements.

It is necessary to consider both the statements and their interpretations to understand and apply the Standards correctly. The Standards employ

terms that have been given specific meanings as noted in the Glossary, which is also part of the Standards. Each month, we’ll list a section from

the Standards to help readers brush up on mandatory requirements for internal auditors.

2600 – Resolution of Senior Management’s Acceptance of Risks

When the chief audit executive believes that senior management has accepted a level of residual risk that may be unacceptable to the organization,

the chief audit executive must discuss the matter with senior management. If the decision regarding residual risk is not resolved, the chief audit

executive must report the matter to the board for resolution.

GOALS WILL LEAD TO SUCCESS

Melissa Leonard, Gleim Chapter Coordinator

When planning for your next part, map out a calendar of what you will need to study each week leading up to the desired exam date. For example, if you wish to take Part 1 of the CIA exam in the next couple of months, create a study schedule and decide what will be a suitable date. Immediately registering for and scheduling your exam well in advance 1) allows you to have a date that is convenient for you and 2) provides you with a finish line that forces you to plan and focus even during the times of year when you can be easily distracted.

In conclusion, if you are studying for a part and have not yet scheduled an exam date or you are thinking about studying for a part, use the Gleim CIA Review System and work with your Personal Counselor to create a study plan together. Once the study plan is complete, you should immediately schedule your exam date. Much of the battle of getting through the CIA exam is keeping yourself focused on completing each part. By scheduling early, you set a goal to commit yourself to studying regularly and to pass the exam.

Remember, as an Inland Empire Chapter member, you will receive a 20% discount on the Gleim CIA Review materials. Gleim has been helping CIA candidates pass the CIA exam since 1980.

Contact Melissa at 800.874.5346, ext. 131 or [email protected] to take advantage of your chapter discount or if you have any questions.

Are you a chapter member who just became certified? We would love to help you share the tactics you used and/or the benefits you are already experiencing with other chapter members. Email Gleim at [email protected] with your comments.

In keeping with its motto of "Progress Through Sharing," The IIA launched a new video-sharing site, AuditChannel.tv, that addresses the specific needs of internal auditors and the business community. With "video channels" focused on areas such as fraud, governance, risk, technology, operations, finance, compliance, and more, AuditChannel.tv enables internal audit professionals worldwide to search for and post videos that address the topics of greatest interest to the profession.

The site also allows registered users to rate and comment on the video content. Best of all, with most shared videos under five minutes in length, AuditChannel.tv enables users to drill down to the essence of a topic in a timely fashion and in their own language. Currently, the site has videos in English, Spanish, and French.

The IIA envisions AuditChannel.tv to be community-driven, with users providing the majority of the content and guiding its evolution. As host of the platform, The IIA will provide content generated from our key activities and share the latest information and breaking news available on the profession.

IIA members and other business professionals can register at www.AuditChannel.tv or www.AuditChannel.tv/mobile (for mobile devices) to become users of the site, enabling them to view, rate, and comment on the site's current content — and add their own.

Join the AuditChannel.tv community today. Share your content and view content generated by your peers world-wide.

Changes to CPE Reporting Process

ATTENTION INTERNAL AUDIT PROFESSIONALS HOLDING ONE OR MORE IIA DESIGNATIONS: On Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, The IIA's Global Board of Directors approved the implementation of several key changes to the CPE reporting process. The changes in the program align The IIA with industry best practices and will enhance the reporting experience for certified individuals. Additionally, on Nov. 30, 2011, The IIA Executive Committee approved the consolidation of all administrative directives pertaining to CPE requirements for IIA certifications. All certified individuals must now comply with Administrative Directive No. Four. For complete details, click here: http://www.theiia.org/theiia/about-the-institute/mission/administrative-directives/index.cfm?c=509. Effective Jan. 1, 2012, changes to the reporting period, CPE requirements, and the reporting process will be implemented. What do these changes mean for you? The 2012 reporting year will be a transition year, bringing all certified individuals in line with the new CPE program. Candidates will need to report for a varied amount of CPE based on when they last reported. The below table indicates the reporting requirement for the Dec. 31, 2012 deadline based on the certificant's ID number and last reporting cycle.

For more information on IIA certifications and reporting requirements, please visit www.theiia.org/certification http://www.theiia.org/certification.

DECEMBER 2011 ANSWER: During the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa Festival of Lights

in Riverside, CA, Over 3.5 million lights transform the historic hotel into a holiday wonderland. In addition

to the external light display, throughout the season The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa features an elaborately

decorated Christmas tree, appearances by Santa Claus and Dickensian Carolers singing cheerful holiday

tunes, authentic horse-drawn carriages, guest appearances by live reindeer, and hundreds of characters

dressed in 17th Century costumes to entertain crowds and evoke the spirit of the season. The 19th annual

Festival of Lights began Friday, November 25, 2011 and continues through Sunday, January 8, 2012, so

there is still time to take in the dazzling holiday spectacle. For more information, visit
