The trees are decorated with beautiful colors of red, yellow, brown and green. It is almost as if God took a crayon and began to color the earth. The leaves start to fall and collect on the ground; signaling that a change is coming and that winter will soon be here. I absolutely love to walk through those HUGE piles of leaves. I can be almost anywhere and I just can’t resist the temptation to walk through them. It’s even better when I shuffle my feet and kick one or two up and watch them fly into the air. The crinkling sound that each one makes as I step on them. Looking down, I can see all of the different shapes, sizes and colors, each one beautifully, uniquely and perfectly made. It makes me feel like a kid again and in that precious moment as I walk among the leaves, I feel completely and totally free. No worries or pressure of impending work deadlines, no stress of how I will get the mortgage paid this month or will the electric company turn off my heat. No children to pick up from school and shuttle to soccer practice. No dinner that needs to be prepared or laundry that needs to be washed. It’s just me and the leaves. There are moments in life that can paralyze us. The winds of change can blow in so strong that it completely knocks us down to the ground and just like that little leaf, we too can find ourselves spirally downward. Feeling completely out of control and in situation that have us asking ourselves, what happened? How did I get here? Or how did this happen to me? It Can Happen, It Happened to Me: Domestic Violence I am a survivor of Domestic Violence. One incident of violence is the severing and reattachment of my right (dominate) hand. This incident was a result of being threaten to have my neck cut, my hand went up as a reaction to block the knife coming towards me. Since this terrifying experience I had lost my home, most of my personal property, such as my clothing, pictures of my family, specifically my children, and my computer- Just about every thing. I still possess my heart, mind, and soul - the 3 things that could not be stolen from me. I went through a period of depression; first dealing with loosing the use of my right hand. I deal with my physical scares being so tremendously upsetting to me. It continues to be very difficult for me to look at my hand - a more honest way to say it is I can barely stand to look at my hand. The 2 surgeries with the possi-bility of more, the current physical therapy, and the consis-tent pain and tenderness are obstacles I live with every day. I face the difficulty now of the extreme challenge of not being employable due to my overt injury. I reside in a shelter living off $200.00 a month that I receive from A-N-D while I am fighting for my SSI benefits. Through this process of healing with faith I have come to some decisions; not the least of which is that I could not let this or any situation steal my dreams or stops me from being the woman God purposed me to be. So, I decided I needed to make some changes and to do things that would better my situation. The more women came to me for support, advice, guidance and direction- I saw I needed to walk out my talk. I decided to enter school, I have attached myself again with a church family, my faith is strong and I attend Life Hurts God Heals (through Arising Hope). I now, one day at a time am growing stronger in my physically, emotionally, and spiritually healing. Continuing my education is a very large factor in my healing. So after all that I have been through - here I am to tell you, “You do not have to live in fear or be ashamed of your history or present situation.” Help is available. I realize that it can be scary to address your issues but if I can do it - you can do it. God is no respecter of persons- If he is doing it for me He will do it for you. While I have your attention I would like to thank God, for being the healing father that He is.

In Good Health: It’s been said that the “Body is a Temple.” One way we can honor Him and care for ourselves is to treat our body as such, and eat nutritious meals that we can use for fuel easily. And what better time to feed it well then during the holidays. Be sure to pick ingrediends that are fresh. While organic food items have their

benefits, they aren’t necessary in these recipe and can add significant unnecessary expenses. Buy from local sources when possible, and enjoy !!

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” ~ Philippeans 4:13

Organogold coffee is different from a lot of coffee brands in the marketplace. Some companies use all Robusta coffee beans which are very high in acid and caffeine, some use only Arabica coffee beans, known for their low acid, lower caffeine and smooth taste. OrganoGold coffee is a healthier choice when compared to store brought coffees or ones from most coffee shops. They use a custom blend to get the best of both worlds, arabica and robusta coffee beans. This makes a great tasting, smooth blen of coffee that everyone will love to drink. They also add 100% certified organic grown ganoderma in their blend. The ganoderma is the king of herbs in the Asian culture and is known for a wide variety of more than 175 different nutrients needed for maintaining good health. SO the ganoderma in the Organogold coffee makes it a healthier choice and neutralizes the negative effects of the acid and caffeine found in coffee shop coffee's.

The City of Thornton has been involved with Hope House, now Arising Hope in a variety of capacities. We are so very grateful for their support of our mission, as demonstrated in a letter written by the Community Services Coordinator... ”In February 2009 Hope House Inc. was invited to become one of 3 recipients of the City of Thornton’s annual giving campaign during February’s Random Acts of Kindness Week. We called on the Thornton community to provide donations of baby products, blankets, hygiene items, office supplies, and animal products and are proud to report we collected 1,412 items. Angela was ecstatic when informed of the results of our campaign and she happily collected and distributed items to residents, brightening their day. “ What an honor to work with the City! For 2010, we are honored yet again by the City of Thornton as they elected to help gather items for Arising Hope for the Random Acts of Kindness campaign, and have blessedly started to collect items for us already! Here is a list of items you can donate to this campaign that wil help us as well as other agencies provide citizens with basic needs. Thank you City of Thornton and residents!

Dearest Family, Friends and Colleagues:I have so very much to be thankful for this holiday season! First I thank God, because if it had not been for Him I would not be sitting here writing this to you right now. I am blessed with the most loving and supportive family and I truly have the most

amazing, giving and selfless friends. I lack the words to say how truly grateful I am for all of your hard work, love, prayers, encouragement and support.

I heard it once said that if you can accomplish your dream alone, then your dream is too small. To all of our community partners, government agencies and cooperate sponsors…thank you, Thank You and THANK YOU. We could not do it without you and like I

always say WE are so successful because of YOU!

I want to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. With much love, Angi

I Am But A LeafBy Penni Lynn Smith

Autumn is so BeautifulSummer came to an end How do I know? Here comes the wind. All the leaves are falling down... Rain, silver and clean comes calling. I can see the branches Twist and bend. I am just a leaf And I shouldn't mind... But once off my tree It's so hard to find... Somewhere else to call my home... I feel so alone... Guess I can just go and rest By the great mountain of stone. Autumn is my favorite time of year Because I am admired and I turn to gold. And since summer's so hot and I dry up fast, I prefer the cold. I love the rain as it patters upon my tree, And when the wind uproots me I sail free! I can roll along the meadows Or slip down along the street, Stay around long enough To hear the autumn rain's beat. What becomes of me At autumn's untimely end? I fly away, fly away Awhirl in autumn's wind!
