MONTH ONE • WEEK 1 NOTORIOUS NOTES
Music notes have special names. They are not names like PeeWee or Princess. They are alphabet letter names. It’s easy! There are only seven letters in the musical alphabet— A, B, C, D, E, F, and G!
When you sing or play a musical instrument, you are making melody with notes. Notes are little pieces of music. When they are all arranged together, they make a song. Help PeeWee and Princess write the note names on the spaces below. ________ ________ ________ ________ ________ ________ ________

MONTH ONE • WEEK 2 ALL HANDS ON DECK!
Some musical notes represent high notes and some represent low notes. Each note has a letter name.
Music notes are sometimes short and sometimes long. Sing the words to Jesus Loves Me following the long and short ship boards like we find on the Jolly Roger.
Je- sus loves me. This I know.
For the Bi- ble tells me so.
Lit- tle ones to Him be- long.
They are weak, but He is strong.
Yes, Je- sus loves me.

Each line and space on the staff has a letter name of its own.
From the bottom to the top, the lines are E, G, B, D, and F. You can remember them as Every Good Boy Does Fine.
The names of the spaces from the bottom of the staff to the top are: F, A, C, E. All of the treble clef spaces (from the bot-tom to the top of the staff) spell FACE.
Alberta needs your help to decode the lines and spaces of her TREBLE CLEF STAFF. See the note names and how they are arranged on lines and spaces of the music staff below.

PAPA’S PIZZA PIE
A note tells us two things: how high or low a sound is and how long the sound lasts. You know how high or low a note will sound by where it is on the staff. Black notes are short and white notes are long. But there’s more—you need to be very exact about note values and how long a note is sung. In the examples below, a whole note = four counts, a half note = two counts, and a quarter note = one count.
The longest note in most music is a whole note. The chart shows how a whole note—and Papa Luigi’s pizza pie can be divided into smaller pieces of equal size. Color each pizza portion a different color.
Note values are measured in counts or beats. When Papa Luigi taps his foot along with a song, he is tapping musical counts or beats. Fill in the blank below each pizza to indicate the total counts in a time signature.
