Exodus 14:14-16

Going Forward

1. God did not leave man on earth to just fumble around by himself.

2. Man has always had a purpose! Even from Adam (Gen. 2:5-7)

3. God gave the people of old a commandment and in view of Romans 15:4 we will apply it to ourselves!

Exodus 14:14 -16

I. Exodus 14:14 The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

II. Exodus 14:15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Why do you cry unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:

III. Exodus 14:16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

It is God’s intention that we progress• Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith:

but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

• Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

In regards to SIN

1 Corinthians 10:13 There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

I. Romans 6:16 Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

II. Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

III. Romans 6:18 Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness.

It is God’s intention that we progress

Don’t let obstacles cause you to stop!

When faced with obstacles find ways to overcome them!

Revelation 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Things that hinder progress!

A. Probably the greatest hindrance to progress is the failure to plan ahead!

• Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.

• B. Another major hindrance to the Lord’s work is looking back.

• Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

• Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.


C. Another hindrance is that we find ourselves going in circles.

1. The Israelites wandered for 40 years!

2. A trip that could have been accomplished under 2 years!

3. Lets not allow it to take us months to do something that should take days!


D. All to often fear or a lack of faith often times hinders progress!

1. Do we have the type of faith God wants?

• Hebrews 3:17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?


• Hebrews 3:18 And to whom swore he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

• Hebrews 3:19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.


F. A failure to assume personal responsibilities.

1. We so often want to let someone else do it!

2. Is the work of the church based on how much someone else gets done?

3. Each has to do our fair share
