Going to the Dentist

Why do I need to visit the Dentist?l Your dentist looks after your teeth and gums. l You need to visit your dentist at least once

a year or when your dentist tells you to. l If you do not have a dentist, you or your friends

or family can ring Barnsley Community Dental Service on (01226) 433101 where a list of NHS Dentists are available.

What happens when I visit the Dentist?l Your dentist will put a small mirror in your mouth

to look at your teeth and will give you advice about your dental care.

l Your dentist may need to clean your teeth.l If there are holes in your teeth the dentist

may fill them.l Sometimes your dentist may take a tooth

out if it is really bad.l You may need a denture to replace the tooth.

Dentures are sometimes called ‘false teeth’. l A Dental Nurse helps the Dentist when he is looking

in your mouth. The Dental Nurse will look after you and answer any questions if you are worried.
