President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux
We hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday and
returning to Golden Acres safe for the 2015 winter.
The next board meeting will held on January 21th at 10:00 in
the clubhouse.
The board has been very busy lately with water leaks. We had
two big leaks on First Street and Second Street. The water leak on
Second Street took a long time to fix. The leak was partially under
the sidewalk on Second Street and the dirt was so wet it kept caving
in on the area needed to repair the pipe. The Plummer thinks that leak has been leaking for a long
time because it was so deep and under the sidewalk. We are in the process of working on a water
plan to minimize the leaks in the future.
The election of two board members will be held at the meeting on February12th. If you
are interested in running for the board you need to fill out intent to run form and submit a resume
to the office to have your name placed on the ballot.
The fence on Third avenue and First Avenue will be stared in mid January. We were
waiting to see if the city would part with the land where the water tower was removed. Right
now the city has no plans for that property and does not want to sell at this time.
We sent the city pictures and other material about the flooding from storm water on the
north end of the park. As of this writing we still have not received a response on this issue. We
hope to hear something in the near future from them about our flooding issues.
The park has a unit that the owner abandoned and the park paid to have it transferred over
to Golden Acres. The unit will go up for sale on January 5th
till January 25th
. The minimum bid
will be $3000.00 to cover the expenses the park paid for the unit to be cleaned out and tented for
termites also lawyer’s fees. The unit is two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms and is unit

127. All bids must be sealed and sent over to Progressive Management who will handle all the
bids. They will inform the board as to who has the winning bid.
The winter is the time of year when residents have guests. Remember all guest must be
signed in and if they have cars to park them in your carport and your car parked at the clubhouse.
You can sign them in the office before they arrive or the library if the office is not open.
January is also inspection month for all the units in the park. A board member and
another volunteer resident will go around to inspect every unit in the park. If you know of
anything that needs to be fixed please try to fix before we inspect. This usually will happen on
the third week in January and check on the list of needed work from the inspection sometime in
March. This is the only way we can keep our community looking as great as it can be.

Happy New Year!
A new year is upon us. Wow! I hope that everyone
had a wonderful holiday wherever and with whomever
you've chosen. Now get ready for a busy social life here at
Golden Acres. The calendar is really chocked full of things
to do this month. From dances to horse races, and
everything in between. It's all there for you to enjoy.
I hope that you made New Year's Resolutions that
are easy to keep, if you made any at all. One resolution I
would welcome is for everyone to continue contributing
articles and pictures for our monthly newsletter. Your input is what makes this newsletter a
success, so please keep them coming.
As January progresses, here are some important days to remember:
On Thursday, January 1st, everyone knows that it's New Year's Day, but did you know
that on Friday, January 2nd is a local holiday of the Day after New Year's Day and is celebrated
in Quebec, Canada? Orthodox Christians follow the Julian Calendar whereas the majority of
Christians follow the Gregorian Calendar. Hence, Orthodox Christians celebrate the new year on
Wednesday, January 14th.
On Monday, January 19th, the USA celebrates the life of Martin Luther King who
promoted Civil Rights through non-violent civil disobedience.
![Page 5: Golden Acres R. O. Association, Inc. 2014-2015€¦ · I wish everyone the most wonderful, happy and healthy New Year. You all deserve the best. For our new residents, we welcome](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022050311/5f72ce94cf850f2d0e1c1ad0/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
For those of you who just arrived from the north, welcome. For those of you confined to
the north for whatever reason, we'll miss you but stay warm and have confidence that before long
it will warm up again. May the New Year bring all of you good health, happiness and prosperity.
Until next time,
May God bless and keep you well and safe…
Notes from the Office By Jo Ellen Bryant
January is a time for reflection. From my viewpoint in the office,
park operations are moving along smoothly with seasoned
Directors all working hard to accomplish our goals. Each director
has their special skill and together they make a good team. Our
Board of Directors deserves recognition for working tirelessly on
your behalf by keeping our park clean, repaired and updated, and
running smoothly. I see them first hand giving up their time for
interviews of prospective buyers, sometimes on VERY short
notice.
They run around the park constantly checking trees, driveways,
sidewalks, fencing, and unwelcome critters. They meet contractors,
and city officials doing research on various projects. They sometimes visit your coaches to see
and better understand exactly what you have requested to add to your coach. Their job is not
always easy, so be appreciative and considerate. Remember, if you have comments come to the
office and submit your written thoughts. Communication is the key to understanding everyone’s
needs.
2014 has been a great year and I’ve several people to thank. Robert is always top on my
list as he is always available to help me with anything. Someone will call to ask about
his or her coach, and I’ll ask Robert to drive by and look at that “huge overgrown gutter
garden”. He is a man of many talents, two being tolerant of all of us asking for favors,
and the other being good-natured in his attitude.
Sue Bailey is a dream come true for me. She is a delight in every way, and can step up to
the plate and handle anything, or at least know whom to call to fix a fax who’s lines have
been severed by carpeting folks. She can make order out of chaos, and fix a computer
problem in a flash. Poor thing steps into an upside down office while we were packing
boxes to move heavy filing cabinets, and in two minutes has all under control. I’m so
grateful to her for filling in during my summer vacation, and my recent fall get-a-way on
a real cruise. It’s worry free when I’m away.
The Board Members are the best and I’d like to thank them all for making my job
enjoyable! They are dedicated to the park, have great senses of humor when things go
![Page 6: Golden Acres R. O. Association, Inc. 2014-2015€¦ · I wish everyone the most wonderful, happy and healthy New Year. You all deserve the best. For our new residents, we welcome](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022050311/5f72ce94cf850f2d0e1c1ad0/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
wrong, (well almost all of them) and always act in the best interest of the park. Joan
handles the gamut during the summer and she and I often commiserate together. I’m so
thrilled to have a freshly painted, newly carpeted office in which to work and to receive
my guests.
I love the smiling faces when all of you return to the park from colder temperatures.
You are happy to be here and to see old friends. What could be better? I wish everyone
the most wonderful, happy and healthy New Year. You all deserve the best. For our new
residents, we welcome you to your new home. We are here in the office to answer
questions, and to make your transition to living in the park go smoothly. Call anytime if
you need help. A reminder to all of you, the office gets VERY busy in the winter. If you
call and your message goes to voice mail, I promise I will call you back.
ONCE A WEEK GARBAGE COLLECTION starting January 5th By Sue Bailey
Just a reminder that both recycling and garbage will be collected on Mondays only.
Carport Sales By Ann Stewart
If you plan on having a carport sale at your coach on Saturday, January 24th, you must
sign up on the bulletin board at the clubhouse. I will take care of getting the permit for the park.
Pancake Breakfast By Gene Binette
Well we had our first pancake breakfast for the fall of 2014 . First we checked to see if
there was any interest in one and there was an overwhelming yes, so tickets were printed and
sold . I was able to get fill-ins for the workers that we lost during the past year .Our chefs cooked
and served 65 well fed and happy customers and there were many compliments of a job well
done to everyone. Our next breakfast will be in January for many of us are going home for
Christmas. Thank you to everyone who made this a success.

Food and Toy Drives By Nancy Baker
Many thanks to all those who donated so much food and toys and money for people who
are not as fortunate as us in Golden Acres. I wish you could see the faces of the people collecting
these goods when we deliver them. They are just so happy to see us and to help us unload it all.
But I hope you feel a warmth in your heart imagining a happy and healthy child receiving our
gifts on Christmas morning. THANK YOU GOLDEN ACRES!
Thanksgiving Dinner By Joe and Paula Bunevith
On Thursday Nov 27th Community members numbering 65, were hungry and happy as
they headed for the clubhouse for a great Thanksgiving Feast. Seven turkeys cooked and
smelling fantastic, mashed potatoes , green bean casserole and more food then you can
imagine. And Desserts so many and so good.
One community member decided to take the Chocolate Trifle all for himself and got caught. The
picture shows who it was.
Hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day.

I will be displaying the pictures at the Clubhouse in January and will be having a contest
to determine who can identify the most residents. More details will be forthcoming.
