ALDINE FAMILY HOPE CENTER CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF SERVICE
Aldine Family Hope Center, located at 4700 Aldine Mail Route (formerly Aldine Y.O.U.T.H.) will be hosting its 25th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 25 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
The centers’ 25 year journey starting from humble beginnings out of the home of Founder, Sylvia Bolling, to now a Center serving thousands of community families with a wide variety of programs and services.
Our Center, located at 4700 Aldine Mail Route (now the Aldine Family Hope Center, formerly Aldine Y.O.U.T.H.) will be hosting our 25th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 25 from 11am - 2pm.
For over 25 years Aldine Family Hope Center has served thousands of families in Aldine with a wide variety of programs and services. Three years ago, the Center was acquired by Buckner, an International Christian organization that is continuing the legacy which has been grown and nurtured over the years and looking toward an exciting future for the Center– from grassroots to global.
Shawna Roy, Director, invites all Aldine neighbors to come celebrate and enjoy music, games, open house and tours, photo booth, message wall, and much more! Along with fellowshipping and fun, we will have a special program from to recognize the many blessings from friends, businesses, churches, schools, organizations, donors, and volunteers who came together over the years to ensure that the Center would always make a positive impact on the lives of the youth and families in our community. This is truly an example of community empowerment! We invite you to come to the program and share in the center’s 25 year testi-mony.
For more information, please call the Center at 281-449-4828 or stop by to visit. Looking forward to seeing you on April 25th!

The young women of the Hambrick Middle School choir, along
with Mr. Willits (center), celebrate their success at the State UIL
Concert and Sight Reading Contest.
The Hambrick Middle School choirs recently competed in the State UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest. In this rigorous contest, choirs must sing three prepared songs, with two of the songs taken from the prescribed music list. The students are then given a brand new piece of music and are allowed six minutes to prepare the piece. Students are not permitted to sing the piece aloud until the conclusion of the six minute study period. After receiving only their starting pitches, the students sing this new piece of mu-sic and are rated on their accuracy and musicianship.
All four Hambrick Choirs that competed sang very well with the 8th Grade Women earning a rating of average, the Intermediate Women and then Show Choir Men earning ratings of excellent, and the Performance Choir Women Receiving the highest rating of superior. Congratulations to all Hambrick Choir students for their hard work and commitment to musical excellence.
Hambrick Student Performs Among the World’s Best
Hambrick Middle School celebrates Denisse Cordova for earning perfect scores on her Advanced Placement (AP) Exams in the spring of
2014.
Denisse was one of only ninety-one students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP Spanish Exam. Looking across
approximately 4 million AP Exams, taken by 1.5 million U.S. public high school 11th and 12th graders in 2014, only 285 students earned
every point possible on an AP Exam; answering every multiple-choice question correctly and earning full points on the free-response
section of the exam. It is very rare for a high school student to
earn every point possible on the exam.
AP Exams are based and reported on a 5-point scale, where a 5
is equivalent to a grade of A in the corresponding college
course. Denisse received the top score of 5!
“AP courses and exams are college-level, and require hard work
and focus on the part of students and their teachers,” said
Trevor Packer, senior vice president of instruction at the
College Board. “On behalf of the College Board, we
congratulate the students and community members who make
challenging coursework and focused practice a priority, and
who motivate and encourage all students to capture their
academic potential.”
The College Board is committed to ensuring that students have
access to the opportunities they have earned. Students who
succeed in AP are not only more likely to succeed in college,
but have the chance to save a significant amount of time and money by earning college credit or placement.
In 2014, more than 3,900 colleges and universities around the world received AP scores for college credit, advanced placement, and/or
consideration in the admission process, with many colleges and universities in the U.S. offering credit in one or more subjects for
qualifying AP scores.
Denisse who took the AP Spanish Exam, which is designed for high school students, as an 8th grader in 2014 is now a student at
MacArthur 9th Grade Center in the Aldine Independent School District. She not only has stealth focus on her academics, but also serves
the community. Denisse has spent a considerable amount of time volunteering at Hambrick Middle School by assisting teachers and
tutoring 7th and 8th grade students.
“Denisse's accomplishment is a result of her hard-work and dedication,” stated Jessica Narvaez, the Spanish teacher at Hambrick Middle
School.
Denisse reminisced about the fact that her native language was not her primary language throughout her education. “By middle school,
I still had not received any formal Spanish instruction, so I understood why some school authorities were apprehensive about me taking
AP Spanish Language and Culture, a course that was recommended after four years of study. But, I insisted. Spanish was my native
language. I practiced it daily. I could speak it, read it, and write it. In Spanish class, I met accents. Huh? I met words whose meaning
could change according to their accent placement, words whose meaning I struggled to comprehend, and cultures that I had never
learned about! But, this did not deter me. I was determined to succeed. Though Ms. Narvaez was a wonderful teacher, my success was
not without a great amount of independent study. My goal was to succeed, so I took initiative.”
Dr. Rebecca Hoyt, principal of Hambrick Middle School stated, “We are extremely proud of Denisse and her accomplishments. She is a
very special young lady that will achieve some pretty special things in her lifetime. I'm sure of it!”

Elite Volleyball at MacArthur High School
Calling all girls in grades 5 through 12 come join our Elite Volleyball League. Our goal is to teach new players and improve on skills of those who already know the sport. Upon completion of our spring season our girls will be ready for regular season volleyball. Our ultimate goal is to have the girls so well skilled that you will have the opportunity to have scouts observe your skills and possibly receive scholarships. Elite will also provide a scholarship to our graduating seniors that have played Elite their Junior year. When we put together this league we did it with the intention to make it accessible and pricing it reasonably. We meet Mondays and Wednesdays 530 to 730 at the Macar-thur High School gym. The cost is $10 per session. When we have tournaments the cost will be an-nounced at that time. This year being our first year we were unable to participate in tournaments but for next year we will be going up against local club teams. In the summer there will be opportunities to play against local teams. Come train with old friends and meet new ones. We have lots of fun! We also plan trips to observe college teams! If you have any questions please contact : Annette Mungia, 832.272.0964 [email protected] or Virginia Bazan [email protected]
