With the sweltering and the torrid heat of the summer upon us, outdoor activities in the Club has taken a back seat. However, this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the members in attending the coaching classes in various sports facilities. The swimming coaching particularly was well patronized and continues to be a hot favourite amongst members and their families.
The process for installing a better facility for cricket has been set in motion with the first phase being complete. The Club now boasts of a wonderful cricket facility. The area that the team uses to practice has been upgraded to a high standard with floodlights and nets. In the second phase astro turf is being installed after which there will be a formal inauguration. We are also actively looking at introducing a bowling machine and members are encouraged to come forward to support the same.
Tambola is being conducted every Wednesday with the bumper Tambola on the last Wednesday of the month. This continues to draw good crowds and members enthusiastically come and try their luck hoping for an improvement in fortunes. Special mention must be made about the enthusiasm and interest taken by the member in charge resulting in members looking forward to their favourite day in the week.
The IPL matches drew an enthusiastic and
appreciative audience and the I Bar was the favourite
spot where the action was keenly watched. Teams
were lustily cheered and members flocked to watch
the matches in the company of friends and family.
With some extraordinary finishes and unusual
twists, the games held the members spellbound.
The smart cards are being issued and some of the
members are yet to have them collected. Members
are requested to ensure that they have collected
the cards for themselves, spouses and dependants.
The testing and implementation is in process and
the same would be in place in a couple of weeks
time. A communication on this would be sent to
you to enable you understand the system better.
The work on the new directory is underway and
we hope to have the same out by August beginning.
I trust that all the requisite information has been
given to the Club. If any details or photographs
needs to updated kindly have them sent to the Club
immediately.
I must recognize the proactive participation
and support of our members. It is your valuable
feedback and suggestions that enables us to take
the Club forward more effectively. Thank you !!!

Perhaps the one activity that was lagging behind (literally !)... Tambola was worked on with such
professionalism, meticulous care and consistent effort that it has become a "look forward to" event in the Club. Working in the background with dedication and diligence, the credit largely goes to the member in charge Mr Chirag Batavia who has ensured that members come, enjoy and go back happy and contented. He is ably guided and assisted by the one and only Mr Premchand Kinger who is very pro active and
passionate about the Club. Their efforts in giving good dividends and gifts to the participants is well appreciated. Credit must also be given to donors like Mangharams, Sakthi Tours, Baywatch Travels, Mr Sai Krishna, Mr Tanseer Ahmed, Mr Satish Khanna, Indian Art Emporium, etc who have generously come forward time and time again to support events of the Club.

Cancer kills millions of people every year & presently it is the third most common (13%) cause of death worldwide only outnumbered by heart diseases (29%) & infections (23%). In 2008, over 7.5 million people died of cancer across the world. Of this number 460,000 deaths were caused by Breast Cancer alone. Breast cancer is one of those cancers that can be detected early and treated effectively. Worldwide, Breast cancer is the largest reason for cancer related deaths among women. In India it is only second to cervical cancer.
RISK FACTORS
GENDER - You are at risk of contracting Breast Cancer solely by virtue of being a WOMAN. This reason is apart from the susceptibility that a person has due to her own family history.
AGE - The chances of contracting Breast Cancer increase with age. About 1 out of 8 invasive breast cancers are found in women younger than 45, while about 2 of 3 invasive breast cancers are found in women age 55 or older.
OBESITY - The risk of contracting Breast Cancer, as with most other diseases as well, is higher if the person is overweight. Since overweight women tend to ovulate lesser, they tend to have higher levels of estrogen which then increases the chances of Breast Cancer.
SMOKING - This is the most common cause of cancer in the world. If you are a smoker, you have a chance of getting breast cancer much earlier than a nonsmoker.
ALCOHOL - Drinking alcohol increases the risk for Breast Cancer. Though the difference is very slight, those women who consumed more than 14 units of alcohol a week were at a higher risk of contracting Breast Cancer.
SHIFT WORK - Some studies have shown a linkage between night shift work and an increase in breast cancer risk. Other studies also suggest the impact that sleeping longer reduces the risk of breast cancer. This could be due to undue stress associated.
But all is not lost. There is so much that you can do from this moment on.
CHANGE YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW ……..……..……..……….!

What kind of tests should you take?
Breast self-exam- A regular breast exam involves checking for lumps in any part of the breast. While is to be done by you yourself, if there are any lumps that seem out of the ordinary, it is best to get an exam done by a doctor. This should be a part of every woman’s life as a practice once they have crossedthe age of 20. Please remember that cancer is a painless lump when it starts.
There is a possibility that you might find an uneven lump or something you couldn’t explain when you conduct a self-exam. While this could be just your imagination, it is always best to take the opinion of a professional.
Clinical breast exam- A breast exam performed by a medical professional is called a clinical breast exam. It is especially beneficial for women over the age of 25 to get one done every 2 years and women over the age of 40 to get one done every year.
Mammography: This is the key test for early detection and to find a possible treatment for breast cancer. This is offered to all women above 40 years of age in a screening program. This test can detect the disease early and make the treatment much simpler.
The treatment for every person faced with Breast cancer differs based on their body. As every individual is unique, the exact combination of treatment options depends on the patient and the doctor. Treating Breast Cancer means getting rid of the cancer in the best way possible, but it also means ensuring that there are few to nil chances of a relapse in the future.
I can’t really tell you about all the treatment options that are out there because that is a lot. But then, I would love to start you off on that path.
Mastectomy or Lumpectomy
Once you have entered the world of ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ you would invariably be faced with this question- what is the difference between a Mastectomy and a Lumpectomy?
The simple answer to this question is that while a Lumpectomy involves removal of only the tumor and a part of surrounding breast tissue, a Mastectomy would lead to removal of the entire breast tissue. Each situation depends on the level of spread of the disease as well as individual factors.
Radiation and why it’s important
Radiation can either be internal or external based on whether the rays are aimed outside the body or are focused inside the body. The medium used for either method also differs considerably. Simply put, the radiation kills cancer cells and so it lies right at the core of any kind of cancer treatment.
Chemotherapy- Why and when?
Chemotherapy uses medicines to weaken or destroy the cancer cells that are present in the body. A characteristic way in which it differs from the other forms of treatment is that it affects the entire body and not just the part affected area of the body as it passes through the bloodstream.
What to expect while you’re getting treated
A major side effect or personal battle that most women have to face when it comes to Breast Cancer treatment is the hair loss. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy contribute to a considerable loss of hair that can weaken the confidence levels and have far reaching psychological implications. But the good part is that, almost always your hair does grow back. And till you reach that stage there are a host of options available today- right from simple hair extensions and wigs to even hair transplants.
So it’s never late…………….
Go for a Clinical Breast Exam today………
