Use of color

• Black background, to keep it simple so they aren’t distracted from the opening scene. In addition; with the dark background it has negative connotations and goes with the other things that happens in the opening 2 minutes, such as the killing of an innocent man, if there was a light colorful background it wouldn't’t have gone with the murder of the innocent man.

Codes and conventions

• The opening sequence breaks a convention because in the beginning it does not open with any music at all, whereas normally there would be a string instrument with the titles. This makes it seem more realistic, like you’re not watching, and like something actually happened in real life, which is the case because it then says that it is based on a true story.

Codes and conventions

• Typical of a crime thriller, within the opening two minutes there is a death.

• a gun as well as a knife is seen and used., which is also very common.

• The killing is at night, which is another convention.• It builds suspense for the audience as it causes the

audience to wonder what the noise is.
