DESCRIPTION

This is a selection of aerials taken during a 22 January 2011 test of balloon photography by a team of arctic explorers and cryptozoologists from the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Proteus Gowanus and the Parsons New School. This will be part of an ongoing effort to capture the poetry and seasons of the Gowanus Canal, and record the various improvements brought about by the Superfund Remediation team and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's water quality infrastructure upgrades. The photography will focus on creating high quality planning bases for community driven efforts to improve the waterfront and watershed. The total Balloon photography expedition budget was less than $100, with generous support from the Gowanus Dredgers and Liberty Industrial Gases & Welding Supply.
