Helen Turner Helen began her adult life as a dedicated career oriented banker, feeling safe and secure as a hard working Assistant Vice President at Bank of America in San Francisco. With God’s grace and mercy Helen successfully survived multiple struggles since her AIDS diagnosis on Mar 13, 1984... struggles with fear, and with stigma...stigma that comes from intergenerational trauma, Black Family Cultural, Institutional and Structural Norms, as well as Self stigma. SHE WAS VERY THANKFUL THAT HER FAITH KICKED IN! And she was able to successfully battle her denial, shock, shame, and so much anger, including a somewhat dismal descent into depression & agoraphobia. AND TO GOD BE THE GLORY! .. BECAUSE ULTIMATELY -- SHE WANTED TO LIVE! So she got into treatment and became proactive in managing her health. For more than 20 years Helen feels Called to do all she can to help eradicate AIDS via evangelism, education, support, advocacy, even activism. She has done extensive volunteer work with multiple local and national AIDS & Community Service Organizations, including Legacy Counseling Center, Ryan White Planning Counsel, Texas HIV Syndicate, etc. Helen is Peer Navigator & Community Advocate, and she holds leadership positions in the Texas HIV Syndicate, playing a signif icant role in development and implementation of Achieving Together: A Community Plan to End HIV as an Epidemic in Texas. She encourages everyone to lend their voice in whatever manner they are gifted (including at election polls). BE THE CHANGE as we END HIV AS AN EPIDEMIC IN TEXAS.

Grace ProjectThe Grace Project was inspired by Grace Hunt, a loving and

generous woman who counseled women with HIV/AIDS.

The program seeks to encourage hope and hold families together through a supportive net of services including mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, support building, and education as women are the fastest growing population of new HIV infections. The conference is the centerpiece of the program.

Celebrating the conference’s 20th year, the event is designed to bring formerly isolated women living with HIV together. The goal of the conference is to SEE (Support, Educate and Empower) each woman and create future advocates for HIV prevention, health education and awareness.
