On a clear day, you can see the sun. You can feel it, too. You feel hot!
On a sunny day, you can make a shadow. Look away from the sun. See the shadow that your body makes on the ground.
Run forward, toward the sun. Your shadow follows you! You can’t run away from it.
Shadows change. In the morning, the sun is low in the sky. Your shadow is long. At noon, the sun is high in the sky. Your shadow gets short.
Night comes. The sky is dark. You can’t make a shadow. But wait until morning. You will see the sun. Then you can make a shadow again.

Wilbur and Orville Wright were brothers. They grew up in Ohio in the 1880s. The boys loved to fly kites. They watched birds fly.
When they grew up, they wanted to build a plane. They thought that people could fly, too. First, they made a plane called a glider. It did not carry any people. They wanted to see if the wind could carry it through the sky. It worked.
Then, they made a plane that could carry 1 person. It had an engine on it to push it through the sky. In 1903, the brothers tested their plane in North Carolina. Wilbur rode on the first flight. The plane crashed. Wilbur and Orville fixed it. Orville flew it on the next try. It worked for a short time. The men didn’t give up. After 3 more tries and fixes, the plane finally flew. They made history!
