• practical method of learning, providing hands-on training apprentices are paid while gaining work experience

• combination of on-the-job training and in-school training conducted at a college or training center

• can take 3-5 years to become certified depending on the trade or occupation

• can begin your apprenticeship training through high school COOP, OYAP, or Dual Credit opportunities

College Pathway

• combination of real life skills with quality education• Colleges offer apprenticeship, certificate, diploma, applied

degree or joint college/university programs• hands-on curriculum• develop technical and occupational skills for a specific career• programs range from 1 to 4 years in length

University Pathway

• offers a broad comprehensive education on specific areas such as business, engineering, humanities, and sciences

• abstract concepts associated with course material and theoretical learning

• independent work skills required• programs range from 3 to 10 years of study

• a wide variety of careers require a high school diploma followed by specific on-the-job training

Importance of Course Selection

Your choices determine the courses we will run and how many sections will be available. If you don’t choose a course now, you may not be able to make changes later.

Grade 12 courses are important prerequisites for post secondary programs.

What courses do you need to apply to your post-secondary program? (i.e Universities require 6 U or M credits)

Talk to your parents, teachers, guidance counsellor for input on your pathway based on your learning skills and achievement.
