Teacher will model reading/slinging but try to engage students in the reading/singing as the unit progresses. Reading strategies will also be introduced or reinforced during this time.

person.

For example a poem using animals:

Guided Reading: This is done to promote reading skills in children. The teacher sits with students with story books. Students then whisper read the text on their own while the teachers work with a couple of students at a time. Teacher will listen to each student read aloud quietly and provide prompts to help with word attacking and comprehension skills. At the end o the lesson, a discussion about the text will take place. Each text will be read more than once.

Writing Workshop: Exercises and activities related to the stories will be done in book and notebook. These will be based on the read aloud stories. Similar exercises will be given as home work based on their home reading books.

Fun with Words: Each week new vocabulary words will be given to the children. The child will have to do the following exercises in the note book as per the schedule.

Monday – Rainbow words (writing every letter of a word with different colour)

Tuesday – Rhyming words (choose any five words and write 3 rhyming words for each word. For example eye-my-tie, see-me-bee

Friday – Dictation – The teacher will give a dictation of all the words in class.

Home Reading: The children take one little home reading book home once a week. The same story book will be reissued in case if the child has not read/completed the story. This is to encourage good reading practices.

Mathematics

UNIT – 1: SORTING AND PATTERNING

Children will learn to sort objects according to attributes such as size, colour and shape and talk about different pattern rules. For further details you can relate to page 14 of Math Make Sense student work book.

For making this unit more interesting you can practice these concepts at home with your child by doing any of the following activities.

Ask your child to use red and green circles to make a pattern in two different ways. Ask your child to help you organise the kitchen utensils. As your child sorts the utensils into groups, encourage discussion about the grouping. (For examples sort the utensils into groups - used for cooking or eating or vessels made of metal or glass, big or small vessels; the same group of utensils will go into different groups depending on the sorting rule.

UNIT – 2: NUMBER RELATIONSHIPS

After the completion of unit – 1, this unit will be started. Here children will learn about number relationships, counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. For more details you can relate to page 28 of Math Make Sense student workbook.

SCIENCE

UNIT – 1: THINKING LIKE A SCIENTIST

Children will learn about famous scientist Albert Einstein and other famous scientist of India. For example – CV Raman

They will learn to work like scientists by doing experiments and predicting, observing, analysing and applying. They will learn about various scientific tools like magnifying glasses, magnets, bug boxes etc.

They will also understand various uses of mathematics in field of Science. Children will measure things by length, weight and time and record their observations.

UNIT – 2: ANIMALS GROW

This unit will be started. Children will learn about various animal groups into which they can be divided. They will also learn about animal’s habitat and interesting facts about different animal groups

HINDI

Children will learn chapter 1 and 2 from Ullas book. Exercises related to the chapters will be done in book and notebook.
