GUITAR CHORDS A chord is a group of notes played at the same time. On the guitar, this means playing more than one string at once. This is called a strum. To start, we will learn 3 basic chords. Think of the chord diagrams as pictures of your guitar neck. The vertical lines represent the strings. The horizontal lines represent the frets. The numbered circles are where you place your fingers. An “x” above a string indicates which strings should not be played. An “o” means to play that string open.
These exercises are for practicing chords, they are NOT a step. Practice them before you go on to
step 6.
