Our second year trainees are currently working within varied placements as part of the programme. Here is a li le taster of what you could expect if you are a successful applicant...
“During the second year of the scheme our placements become longer and we have a chance to work on bigger projects, which is really exci ng and gives us a chance to deepen our knowledge on health care sys-tems, processes and structures. So far, I have been involved in producing a service specifica on for a new acute ser-vice, worked on workforce modernisa on and transforma on projects and I have con nued work on improving the out-comes for demen a pa ents in our com-muni es. Our work is varied and provides us with opportunity to look at the health care ho-lis cally by focusing our efforts on both physical and mental wellbeing”. Anna Pepper
“Since beginning the Graduate Growth Management Scheme I have experienced a variety of different services throughout the health board, from HR through to CAMHS. Having the opportunity to work within different environments really adds to the experience of the scheme as no place is similar. You are offered the chance to inter-act with a large field of clinical and adminis-tra ve staff and directorate management teams. The variety of corporate and opera onal placements contributes to your personal skills while developing your managerial ex-perience”. Chloe Dobbin

Why Should you Apply...?

Our first year trainees have completed their six week’s cook’s tour and are shortly due to go into the third of four placements in their first year of the programme. Here are their comments on their experience so far...
“The Graduate Growth Programme will
offer you an opportunity to develop your
training on-the-job, in a number of differ-
ent opera onal and strategic placements
across several Service Areas.
The six-week Cook’s Tour at the start of
your programme is an incredible whistle-
stop tour, with my personal highlights be-
ing the day out in an Ambulance, and a day
with the Porters on A&E. I also spent me
with Housekeeping, Physiotherapy, and
Audiology, to name a few. I’ve since been
on extended placements, working on pro-
jects within Clinical Engineering, and Men-
tal Health & Learning Disabili es.
One of the best decisions I made was to apply for this programme, and I urge you to do the same”. Gareth Taylor
“The Graduate Growth Programme offers you a unique opportunity to experience opera onal and strategic roles within the NHS. Through my placement with the Pro-gramme Management Office I have been able to contribute to a business case that has been discussed at Execu ve Board. Be-fore joining the NHS this would have been just a dream, now it is a reality. I have worked with opera onal staff from A&E to Therapies to map a Trauma pa ent path-way to support in service improve-ment. When I stop it is hard to believe that I am only 4 months into my journey, I have already been exposed to so many new ex-periences, services and ways of working. If you want the opportunity to make a difference and have your contribu on, this is the right role for you!” “Amy Meek

A big impact made by YOU! Cwm Taf’s second cohort of Graduate Growth Trainee Managers successfully completed the programme at the end of January 2019 and have all moved into new posi ons, 4 in Cwm Taf Morgannwg. Here are Amy’s comments about her experience on the pro-gramme.
Why did you decide to apply? The Graduate Scheme seemed to offer me every-thing I was craving from a career: challenges, sense of belonging, personal growth
and academic progression.
Amy’s story
What impact have you had? I think the biggest impact was organising the Health Board’s applica on for the Corporate Health Standards, and achieving Gold and Pla num standards!
Do you have a memorable moment? My most memorable moment by far was spending the day with a Paramedic on a Rapid Response vehicle responding to 999 calls on blue lights!! I also helped to bring a new baby into the world – I will never forget that!
What have you learned about yourself since star ng the scheme? I started the scheme pre y sure that I already knew everything there was to know about myself. I couldn’t be more wrong. The reflec on sessions with my graduate colleagues helped to open my eyes to my personality type and my role in a team. I have also come to learn that I work much more effec vely when I am working outside of my comfort zone – and I can swim in the deep end if needs be!
What’s your ambi on for your future? I have a very open mind. I have worked in so many areas/departments within the health board and every placement was a posi ve one! I aspire to be in a senior management posi on, and hopefully have a long and happy career with Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
