Receipt of this information by a degree candidate does not necessarily mean that the recipient will be awarded a degree. The graduation of any candidate cannot be determined, until all academic requirements and records are complete. The filing deadline for a May 2011 degree is March 15 th . Applications must be filed with the University Registrar. Please visit http://nbregistrar.rutgers.edu/ to complete your graduation application electronically. Paper applications are also available at the University Registrar’s Office. 2. All candidates are reminded that they must return or account for any items withdrawn from the university libraries, and clear all outstanding financial obligations to the university before graduation. Candidates who have been certified for graduation but whose accounts are not clear will not receive diplomas at commencement. 3. A packet of six souvenir invitations will be available to all graduates with their regalia order. You can pick up both at the bookstore. 1. Receipt of this information by a degree candidate does not necessarily mean that the recipient will be awarded a degree. 9. Masters and Doctoral degree candidates will receive their degree by mail. Doctoral students will be hooded at the GSE ceremony by their dissertation advisor.

10. All candidates for degrees will line up in alphabetical order by program, in the appropriate line for their academic unit.

11. Marshals wearing regalia will be present to direct the entire procession. The order of the procession will begin with the gonfalon leading in two lines followed by the students, faculty, platform party and the Dean.

12. Any candidate physically unable to march in the academic procession should contact Marie Pavelchak, 732-932-7496, ext. 8202, as soon as possible, to make special arrangements.

13. At the appropriate time, candidates will be escorted to the platform by marshals. Each name will be announced and the Dean and others will extend individual congratulations.

14. All cell phones and electronic-noise producing devices must be turned off during the ceremony.

15. All candidates should carry a completed name card in their right hand as they approach the stage. Candidates should present name cards to the reader on the stage and proceed toward the stage center to shake hands. Doctoral candidates should carry their hoods on their right arm and turn quickly toward the audience as you are hooded by your advisor. Ph D. & Ed.D. students will be hooded by their advisors at the GSE ceremony. Please follow the directions of the marshals as you exit from the stage.

16. Guests will not be permitted on stage during the ceremony. It is suggested that graduates and guests make arrangements to meet after the convocation outside of the gym or near Brower Commons.

17. Rutgers University Police will be present throughout the ceremony.

18. Please do not leave valuables in the marshaling area during the ceremony.

GUESTS

19. Guests may be seated on the gym floor or may prefer seating in the balcony area overlooking the gym. All seating will be on a first come basis. Guests with special needs should contact Marie Pavelchak, 732-932-7496, ext. 8202, as soon as possible.

TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING

20. Students and guests attending University Commencement prior to the GSE Convocation must follow the Blue Parking Plan directing individuals to park in the College Avenue Parking Deck, located off of George Street. You will then will be shuttled over to the stadium in buses provided by Rutgers. The buses will pick up guests and graduates in front of Brower Commons on College Avenue, and will drop off guests and graduates at Johnson Park, across from the Stadium. Gates open at the Rutgers Stadium at 8AM. Graduates should plan to be in the stadium by 9AM. Please allow 30 minutes to park and take transportation to the stadium. If you need assistance to the stadium handicap shuttles will run from Johnson Park. After University Commencement buses will pick up guests and graduates at Johnson Park and will drop off in front of the College Avenue Gymnasium (the location of the GSE commencement).

21. If you are coming directly to the GSE convocation students and guests should park in lots #26 and 30 and the College Avenue Parking Deck- which are located directly behind and around the College Avenue Gym. These lots will not be open for parking until 10:30 a.m. Limited metered street may also be available.

22. Traffic will be heavy. Please try to carpool if possible and be sure to allot plenty of time to arrive and get situated.

DIRECTIONS TO COLLEGE AVENUE GYM, 130 COLLEGE AVE, NEW BRUNSWICK

Garden State Parkway Southbound Take exit 129 for the New Jersey Turnpike. Follow signs for Turnpike South. Take exit 9 for New Brunswick – Rutgers University. Bear right after the tollbooths towards Route 18 North – Route 1. After the merger, keep to the left and get into the two left-most lanes that follow, Route 18 North, NOT Route 1. Continue on Route 18 North, past the exit for Route 27 – Princeton. Take the next exit, marked George Street – Rutgers University (approximately 2.6 miles from the Turnpike). At the top of the exit ramp, bear right onto George Street. Continue along George Street and bear left at the jug handle onto Huntington Street. Continue along Huntington Street for one block. Turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue. College Avenue Gym will be 2 blocks down on the right hand side.

Garden State Parkway Northbound Take exit 105 and follow signs for Route 18 North. After approximately 24 miles you will pass the New Jersey Turnpike. Get into the two left-most lanes after passing the Turnpike to remain on Route 18 North, NOT Route 1. Continue on Route 18 North, past the exit for Route 27 – Princeton. Take the next exit, marked George Street – Rutgers University (approximately 2.6 miles from the Turnpike). At the top of the exit ramp, bear right onto George Street. Continue along George Street and bear left at the jug handle onto Huntington Street. Continue along Huntington Street for one block. Turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue. College Avenue Gym will be 2 blocks down on the right hand side.

Interstate 287 Turn off at "Bound Brook/Highland Park" (Exit 9). Proceed East on River Road toward Highland Park. Make a right onto Route 18 South (exit after the traffic light at Landing Lane). Cross the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. Stay in the right lane and take the exit for "George Street/Rutgers University/New Brunswick Route 27 South". Turn right at the first traffic light onto Huntington Street. Continue along Huntington Street for one block. Turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue. College Avenue Gym will be 2 blocks down on the right hand side.
