• To encourage research in Chinese Studies, to promote Chinese culture and to provide graduate training for candidates from educational, journalistic and other relevant professions.

• Area of research• Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Literature, Chinese history, Chinese

philosophy, translation between Chinese and English, Southeast Asian Chinese, etc.

• The course may be offered on a full-time (minimum 12 months) or part-time (minimum 24 months) basis.

• Candidates will have to read 10 modules.

Admission Requirements: A good Masters degree in a relevant discipline

Or an Honours degree (at least 2nd class Upper) or equivalent (4 year degree with average grade above B) in a relevant discipline, subject to approval by the Faculty, on a case-by-case basis

TOEFL / IELTS Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (selected

departments)



TOEFL/IELTSFor Applicants whose native tongue and

medium of university instruction is not English

The following minimum TOEFL score is required: 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22

for the writing section); or 580 for the paper-based test; or 237 for the computer-based test.

Alternatively, an IELTS result of 6.0 is required.

Note: Some Departments/Programmes may set higher

Requirements than those stated above. TOEFL and IELTS are only valid for two years after

the test and the validity should not expire before the beginning of the application period for the research programme.

are required to submit the GRE score report:

(a) Cultural Studies in Asia;

(b) Political Science; &

(c) Psychology

No minimum score stated but General Test [and Psychology Subject Test for (c)] have to be taken
