Planting a new church is one of the most rewarding and fruitful endeavors a church can do in the fulfillment of the Great Commission. It has been said to grow something that lasts a season, plant flowers. To grow something that lasts a lifetime, plant trees. To grow something that

lasts through eternity, plant churches.

On January 15-17, Heartland Baptist Bible College in Oklahoma City hosted its annual National Church Planting Conference. In addition to the 86 Church Planters and 29 Home Missions Representatives, literally hundreds of pastors and church members from across the nation attended the conference. Average attendance for the three-day conference was over 1,300.

“The challenges of planting a church are great, but God is greater!”

The conference was filled with Christ-honoring music, great fellowship, challenging and encouraging Bible preaching, and sacrificial giving. Churches, full-time Christian workers, and individuals came prepared to give in an effort to help jump-start a church planter starting out on deputation or to help one leave deputation faster.

There were 42 Church Planters that presented their work and personal needs. As the Holy Spirit prompted people to give by grace, nearly $233,000 was given in one-time gifts to meet those needs. Also, nearly $102,000 in annualized monthly support was raised to help Church Planters.

The challenges of planting a church are great, but God is greater! We praise God for His working in the hearts via this conference. Please plan now to come and be a part of the next National Church Planting Conference on January 14-16, 2014.

Plans are well underway for the opening of Heartland Baptist Academy, a lab school of Heartland Baptist Bible College, in August 2013. HBA will be a traditional Christian school and will be housed in two buildings adjacent to the college campus to the west with access through the

campus. Renovation of the buildings should be completed by April with an open house during Graduation Preaching Conference in May.

We are excited about the potential of having HBA as part of Heartland. First, we will have a school available for our married students and staff and faculty which will be within the college campus. The school will be convenient for those who choose to enroll their children, and the parents will be close by if they are needed. In addition, the school calendar will parallel the college calendar with some adjustment to allow for a legal number of school days.

Secondly, the school will give our education students a venue that is nearby where they can observe classes and gain experience as a teacher’s aide at a variety of times throughout the day. Practical application opportunities will also be available for our ministry secretarial majors with office work, our music educators with music classes, and Biblical studies majors with Bible classes and chapel as well as opportunities to assist in the video learning center. Student involvement will be carefully controlled so they will be a help and blessing to the full time school staff. Having a school on-site is a dynamic that we have not had in the past, so we anticipate a number of new possibilities.

The school will open with kindergarten to 2nd grade in a traditional classroom setting using the A Beka curriculum and 3rd grade through high school, as required, in an individualized setting using A Beka video.

Please pray as the ministry of Heartland expands. The potential for Heartland Baptist Academy is extremely promising for the students, staff, faculty, and friends of Heartland Baptist Bible College.

A number of improvements took place this summer and fall including new stair treads in the north end of the Administration Building, carpet repairs and new carpet in two of our Ladies Residence Halls, sealing the parking lot to avoid damage from winter freezes, new downspouts on

the Music Building enabling the roof to properly drain, and new commercial-grade showers in Dennis Brown Hall.

One of the more visible improvements throughout the campus is the replacement of the broken sidewalks and the east stairs. Terry Bannister, a second year married student, did a great job of tearing out the old concrete and pouring the new stairs and walkways with big savings to the college.

A very important improvement took place in Art Wilson Hall where the plumbing has been a challenge for several years. Over the Christmas break, Greg Stracener, an ‘05 graduate, removed 50-year old sewer lines from the north bathrooms and replaced them with a new system that works like it’s supposed to-which is a very good thing to say the least.

In addition to the planned improvements, came some unexpected ones. A major hail storm came through the campus on May 30th causing considerable damage to buildings and vehicles. Thirteen roofs were totaled. The siding and windows on eight buildings were heavily damaged. Forty-five rooftop A/C units were hit hard. Five of our vehicles received damage along with many other vehicles parked on campus that night. Our property has been insured with Brotherhood Mutual since we moved here in ‘98, and they have been great to work with through the entire process. Their inspections were timely and thorough, and their payments have been prompt. We now have thirteen new roofs, the siding and windows have been replaced, the plaster on the main entrance of the Administration Building has been completely refinished, and our A/C units have been either replaced or repaired.

We thank the Lord for all who give faithful financial support through the May College Offering and regular monthly support. This income enables the college to pay for many needed improvements and ongoing expenses like good insurance which certainly paid off in a big way this year.
