Youth will be starting to take YQCA instead of FSQA starting in the 2017-2018 fair year. This program will be offered
starting March 1st, 2016 but will not be mandatory for youth to have until the next fair year.
This new training will be $12 to complete. It will be mandatory every year, there will be no testing out option available.
It will start in 4th grade and is offered to youth through the ages of 21, just as FSQA did. If youth show beef, dairy,

4-H Re-enrollment
Jessica Buckley
Jessica has been in 4-H for 5 years and is in the Rhodes Raven Club. She likes to show her rabbits, dogs, horses, and of course her non-livestock projects at fair. Her favorite part of being in 4-H is getting to meet a lot of new people. Her goals this year in 4-H is to learn how to show her new ponies and to get grand champion title with her dog. When she grows up she wants to become a band director or an entertainer!
Mackenzie Moyer
Mackenzie has been in 4-H for 2 years and is a part of the Marshall County Rockets and loves to show her rabbits at fair. Her favorite part of 4-H is the feeling of being a part of a family. She would like to go into agriculture or music when she grows up.
The Youth Ambassador’s next meeting—December 4th—will be at 5pm at the extension
office. They will be having a pizza party and a small grab bag gift exchange.
Remember….new members are ALWAYS welcome!
County Youth Ambassadors
On December 28th we will be having a record book workshop at the extension office. It’s never too early to start
working on your record books. Come and get new ideas for your record books, or come and learn how to put together
your FIRST record book! All experience levels are welcome! It will be a great time to work on record books and meet
new people! The workshop will be from 2-4 pm at the office on December 28th RSVP to the office by Thursday,
December 22nd to let us know you will be there! You can call the office (641-752-1551) or email Chelsea

Record Book Workshop
The Marshall County 4-H Youth Ambassadors are once again hosting a canned food drive to be donated to the
House of Compassion in Marshalltown. If every 4-H’er donated just ONE canned item, we could donate over 200
items!
Bring your canned items to the extension office by December 19.
This is a great way to begin the 4-H year with a club citizenship project!

Time to start thinking about new projects for the new year. We have set the weigh-in date for this winter. Beef weigh in on Saturday, December 17th from 9 am to 12 pm
We know that we might have some exhibitors that can not make this work due to other activities. If you can not make it on this day you MUST call the Extension Office ahead of time to let them know where you will be going to weigh in your projects and you MUST pick up a packet from them before you go with Marshall Co Beef tags and paperwork along with instructions. Also a reminder that someone else can weigh in your calves for you on the day stated above and we can certainly help make that happen. All the exhibitor needs to do is sign off on a form that is at the extension office giving permission for another person to weigh them in. If you have any questions about the information stated above please feel free to contact the office or a member of the beef committee.
Also, please remember when you are finding your new market animals to weigh in, if they are a registered breed then please get the paperwork going as soon as possible. When you come to weigh in you will need to have the calf tattooed, and we will need to have the tattoo number, sire registration name and sire registration number. So please be prepared with this information.
Please call anyone on the beef committee if you have any questions. Thank you.

Marshalltown High School 4-H Club
Community Service Project: RSVP Winterization
Members from the Marshalltown High School 4-H Club decided to make their service project for fall 2016 a
learning experience. They had the opportunity to work in partnership with Central Iowa RSVP, for their
Weatherization Program. The program mainly benefits homes from people with limited resources; the program
helps protect their houses for the cold season.
Kids learned to protect windows with plastic wraps, sealed them, moved stuff around (if needed), putting insolation
or protections around doors, etc. “At first, most of us didn’t know how to weatherize homes, but we all learned
from experience.” –Vanessa Ceren
Many of them also learned the importance of team work. For
many it was the first time actually interacting with other mem-
bers of the club one on one basis. They used their communi-
cation skills and along with some of the Club’s Leaders suc-
cessfully accomplished the service. “Working together was the
key for great communication, and it made the whole day go
smoother.” –Javier Nunez
One of the things they experiences was the exposure of living
in poverty. This experience created a huge impact in some of
the club’s members. “Sometimes we take for granted what we
have and being able to see what’s going on around your com-
munity makes you think you’re lucky for what you have.”
-Daisy Lopez.
“I learned a lot from this experience. Not many people live at
their best and they need the help, they wouldn’t have been
able to do it on they own and I’m glad we helped them out.”
–Rosie Estrada
Over all, it was a great experience and these club members had the opportunity to explore their citizenship skills.
They went out there and helped the community, especially by helping families that really needed this service. We
congratulate them all and we are ready to see what other projects they can be part of around the their community.

Thank You to all our volunteers!
One of the greatest aspects about the Marshall County 4-H Program is the many volunteers that help provide a quality experience to youth. We are so blessed to have
so many volunteers, long and short term, that assist with various projects. There would not be a Marshall County 4-H Program without the many caring adults willing to
help out in times of need. If you are interested in volunteering please, contact Chelsea or Amy at the Extension Office for more information.
Thank you,
