How it Works

1 Evaporator The evaporator produces chilled water by evaporating refrigerant (water) at low pressure. The vapor generated byevaporation flows towards the absorber. The chilled water is distributed for cooling purposes in fan coils.

2 Absorber The vapor from the evaporator is absorbed into a strong saline solution. The absorber is cooled by a fan. After absorption of the vapor, the weak solution returns to the generator.

3 Generator The generator heats a weak saline solution, producing vapor. Vapor flows into the condenser while the stonger solution returns to the absorber. In a Purix system, the generator is heated by solar collectors, or from a backup heating source.

4 Condenser The air cooled condenser receives water vapor from the generator and produces liquid water which flows to the evaporator.

5 Expansion The liquid produced in the condenser flows towards the evaporator, passing the expansion valve which reduces pressure and thus evaporation temperature.
