The first step was to determine the characteristics of each field according to the SWOT analysis
• The initial approach was to arrange the fields collectively according to the SWOT analysis’ factors
• Later on the SWOT analysis was broken into individual tables for each field

Environment
• Appropriate geometrical characteristics (adequate road width, public and private open spaces)
• Appropriate road orientation • Rich urban biodiversity • Degraded urban environment • Land uses conflict (car repair shops, construction sites) • Unsuitable thermal comfort conditions
Water
• Presence of underground water • Natural flow of rain water due to road slope • Insufficient drainage system • Degraded surface water infrastructures (fountain) • Waste of water • Flood risk
Energy
• Limited energy consumptions due to limited need for transportation (mixed uses, metro)
• Potential site for renewable energy (positive solar orientation of road axis)
• Inefficient building structures (degraded and old) • Reduction of activity density
Health and happiness
• Sport facilities in the neighborhood and connectivity with major sports centers (Paok stadium, Poseidonio)
• Proximity to waterfront • Forest view • Unhealthy environmental conditions • Economic crisis • Lack of safety
Conclusions
• Initial, interim proposals were created • They were presented along with the proposals of the other teams
• The comments of all teams were taken into account • A more compatible proposal was created

“Karakasi str – From a green axis to modular green neighbourhoods”
Our strategy:
Strategic Targets: • Reinforcement of biodiversity • Reduction of energy consumption • Unification of public space
12
Reinforcement of biodiversity
• Green roof on the elementary school
• Releasing trees to their natural environment
• Community gardens in proximity to the food market
Reduction of energy consumption
• Installation of photovoltaic panels on the flea market (south orientation)
Unification of public space
• Unification of uncovered spaces with each other, with the open spaces and
formation of a network
• Undergrounding of the parking lot next to the flea market
• Pedestrianization – retention of pavement height, heightening of the road
• Pedestrian walkways widening in front of central stores
• City plan change
• Bicycle roads
• Green lanes
• Infrastructures upgrade
• Purchases of private open spaces
