Blending AP and Concurrent Credit

• Greenbrier High School offers a blended set AP/Concurrent Credit courses.– Blended means that most of the courses offered

are both AP and Concurrent Credit courses.

– Your child can take AP courses for high school credit without being qualified for Concurrent Credit.

– Both programs will get you college credit, but they are viewed differently and have different routes to that college credit.

How do AP and Concurrent Credit Differ?

• For Concurrent College Credit, you must pre-qualify for the class and then pass the class with at least a C.

• For AP College Credit, you must take the AP class and and make a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP exam.

• *While students taking AP courses for Concurrent Credit do not have to make a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP exam to get credit, they do still have to take the AP exam. Scoring well on the exam will ensure their college credit will transfer better and further.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock is pleased to offer the Associate of Arts degree to GHS students.

• GHS had 30 AA graduates last year. • Currently Greenbrier High School offers 127 hours

of concurrent credit courses.• Students will be required to complete 60 hours of

concurrent credit for the AA degree.• There is a specific course plan that must be

followed to earn an AA degree.

Grades and Weighting GPAs

• Students in blended AP and Concurrent Credit courses will receive weighted credit on the high school GPAs, but unweighted credit on their college GPAs.

– This means if a student makes a B in an AP/Concurrent Credit course, that would count as an A at the high school and a B at the college.

• Concurrent Credit courses that are not also AP courses do not receive weighted credit.

FeesThere is no fee associated with AP courses, but there is a fee for Concurrent Credit courses.

• UA Little Rock charges $100.00 per course at the college level for all Concurrent Credit courses. – Several of GHS’s courses count as two courses at the

college level which means you will be charged $100.00 per semester if your child is participating in the Concurrent Credit program.

• All fees will be paid to GHS and GHS will pay UA Little Rock.
