Welcome to Chiang Rai! Our university is located in

the northernmost spot of Thailand and esta blished in 1973.

Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU) was the first tertiary

institution in Chiang Rai with an aim to produce qualified

teachers for local community development. After 4 decades,

the university has transcended through time with dynamic

development, and a vision and mission that is still shining

brightly in focusing on local community development, and

providing higher education opportunity for the people in this

region throughout ASEAN. We are the “University of Learning

for Local Development and Internationalization”.

Today, ASEAN and globalization trends have created positive advantages for the

university by which we proactively embrace and welcome the new challengers for more

internationalization activities, such as expanding collaborative networks with international

universities, welcoming more international students, implementing various types of

exchange programs for students and faculty members. Therefore, we are at the

forefront for meeting the needs both locals and internationals.

Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU) is the first tertiary

education institution in Chiang Rai Province for producing teacher

graduates and educational specialists with the aim of serving the local

communities for sustainable development. The institution was

established on 29 September 1973 as a “Teacher Training College”,

later as “Rajabhat Institute”, and finally upgraded to “Chiang Rai

Rajabhat University” in 2004. For more than 40 years, the university

has served as the hub in producing qualified graduates for serving

the needs of the local community. Today, the university’s vision is still

shining brightly and functioning as the “University of Learning” where

people from local communities can have their education opportunity

in various disciplines. The university also serves higher education

needs for the people in ASEAN countries by conducting research and

providing academic services in the fields of education, economics,

social sciences, and cultural studies.

CRRU covers an area of 623 acres (1,575 rai). The main

campus covers 376 acres (951 rai) plus 247 acres (624 rai) of the

adjacent Princess Mother’s Park overlooking two breathtaking lakes.

The university is the home for approximately 20,000 full time students.
