How do we apply these learnings in Australia?

1. We need to put people at the heart of our planning activities….greater collaboration with Local

Government, private sector and the community….create compelling city visions

2. Improved collaboration at all levels of government to ensure real integrated transport/land

use/economic planning….better greater city governance and lock in long range city plans

3. Approved city plans drive infrastructure priorities….a requirement of Infrastructure Australia

4. Greater focus on the planet aspects of our cities…commit to resiliency planning and renewable

energy investment

5. Federal Government drives the agenda for sustainable cities through Smart Cities initiative…..attach

funding incentives to smart and sustainable initiatives, including infrastructure

We have the start of a plan – can we make it happen?

“Our cities – the CBDs, the suburbs, and our regional centres are where most of us live and work. To succeed in the 21st Century economy, our cities need to be productive and accessible, but they also need to be liveable with a clear focus on serving their citizens.” Smart Cities Plan, Federal Government, April 2016
