social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following
Thanksgiving (U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black
Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday
kicks off the charitable gifting season when many people make
holiday and year-end gifts.
What is #GRgives on #GivingTuesday?#GRgives on #GivingTuesday is a city-wide campaign to raise funds,
fi nd volunteers and build awareness for local nonprofi ts. Designed to
create a movement around #GivingTuesday in Grand Rapids, #GRgives
helps nonprofi ts band together — promoting one resource for all to
share their donation and volunteer opportunities, and one place for
our community members to fi nd all the ways they can give.

to participate in #GivingTuesday 2015 compared to 39% for Black
Friday and 39% for Cyber Monday, showing Millennials were just
as interested in giving as spending.

country. From Baltimore to Lansing to Seattle, #GRgives on
#GivingTuesday is a special call to action that brings diverse

- Rebrand #GivingTuesday for your organization. From
#GivingShoesDay to #GivingZooDay, get creative!
- Organize a volunteer project for your organization. Invite donors,
employees and your neighbors to get together to celebrate giving
by creating a day of service.
Identify Volunteers• Need goods, services, special talents? Let community members
know your volunteer needs — not just on #GivingTuesday, but any
day of the year.
• Need special skills? Post opportunities for community members to
provide services pro bono to your organization.
Get Social • Activate your social media constituency (or open a new social media
account) to talk about giving.
• Celebrate your community heroes and service leaders on
social media.
• Email your supporters to educate them about #GRgives on
#GivingTuesday and invite them to give and volunteer.
• Share photos from past campaigns or volunteer events to teach
community members about how you serve the community.

payment was received, but also a great way to continue your
connection with the donor by sincerely thanking them and including
information about more ways to get involved. However, do not ask
for more money or for them to volunteer, only provide information
for where they can learn more if interested. If you have a regular email
