Where Every Plant is a Work of Heart!

Did You Know? There are early, mid-season and late-sea-

son garden mums? A mum will bloom forabout six weeks from bud break to “brown out,”if placed in full sun and given adequate water.

Many folks buy early season mums in late August or early September and will come outagain in early October for late season mums tokeep fresh color going all fall.

The mums you will start to see at the box storeshave been grown in greenhouses under a“shaded” growing technique to encourage anout of season bloom.

Mums are naturally fall blooming plants andthose grown outdoors, with plenty of spacing, will be much larger, have many more buds andbloom much longer. This is how we grow ourmums—only the best for our loyal customers!

Late Summer FertilizingFertilize annuals until killing frost to keep them

full of blooms.Petunias, geraniums and calibrachoa should be

fertilized at the full strength rate every 3rd wa-tering. We use Nature’s Source and also recom-mend Miracle Gro Bloom Booster. We carry bothproducts.

Trimming petunias will help stimulate newshoot growth at the base of the stem and fill inbare spots.

Re-apply slow release granular fertilizer, such asOsmocote, in late July in addition to your watersoluble fertilizer. This ensures your plants are fedwith every watering or rain.

Discontinue fertilizing perennials, roses andshrubs by Aug. 1st. They need to put their en-ergy into roots rather than top growth to ensuregood winter survival.

Discontinue pruning on shrubs and roses byAug. 1st. Pruning encourages fresh, new growthwhich can divert energy from the root zone.

We'll have a new crop of hardy hydrangeas and Knock Out roses ready by mid-August!Little Lime, Little Quick Fire, Firelight, Invincibelle Spirit, Quick Fire, Bobo hydrangeas and Double

Red and Double Pink Knock Out roses!

Early season mums will be ready the last weekend of Augustit’s been a great growing season for them and they’re looking huge!
