The younger pupils including Nursery and KS1 will be located on the ground floor to facilitate easy access to outside whilst minimising their use of the stairs, with KS2 pupils located on the upper floor. The main entrance will be retained in its existing location, but will incorporate a new canopy to provide shelter as well as providing stronger definition to the main entrance. Administration areas will be located adjacent to the main entrance providing good passive supervision of visitors. The hall will be retained in its central location with good access for all year groups as well as easily controllable access for visitors and community use. The existing kitchen is currently undersized for a fully serviced kitchen serving a primary school of this size. Therefore a small area of extension is being proposed to the front of the building to provide the required size kitchen, servery and associated hall storage. The two nursery classrooms will be located close to the main entrance for ease of access and will have its own dedicated external access route around the building along the south boundary for drop off and pick directly from the classroom doors. The existing classroom space between the two new Nursery classrooms will be utilised for dedicated shared teaching spaces, WC’s and an Nursery Staff Work Room. The two classrooms will have direct access out the their own dedicated external play area. The two Reception Classrooms are the 2 which require the most alterations to be carried out utilising the exiting changing / shower rooms and an existing entrance area. The two classrooms will be linked by a shared lobby with access to WCs and direct access out to the main play area. The four KS1 classrooms are grouped together on the northern side of the building with a central shared teaching space and WCs Eight KS2 classrooms will be located at 1st floor level along with a large studio, library, group rooms and a practical area along with other associated facilities. V2 Secondary School - A new build 3 storey block will provide the main general teaching accommodation required for KS3 and KS4 pupils. This 3 storey block runs parallel with Lytham Road and is set back to maintain the existing building line. This aligns with the overall heights of the existing buildings to be demolished and re- provides a strong street presence to Lytham Road. This block is of a simple form with an efficient double sided layout helping to deliver a cost effective solution. The main entrance into the Secondary School is at the southern end of the 3 storey block and has a prominent location at the corner of Arnold Avenue and Lytham Road. This entrance will be primarily for visitors with pupils accessing the building directly from the external play areas. As well as providing shelter a canopy over this entrance will help to define it as the main entrance increasing legibility for visitors. Public access into the building is via a secure lobby controlled from the General Office. Also other administration spaces are located in this area including Meeting and Interview rooms. General teaching classrooms and a large Learning Resource room are located at ground floor level along with a centralised WC Block. The main kitchen and dining facilities are at the northern end of the block with the kitchen backing onto the service yard which also provides access for deliveries and bin collection as well access to the main plant room. Two staircases provide access to the upper floors with a passenger lift adjacent to the main entrance ensuring all levels are fully accessible. The 1st floor accommodates 6 laboratory classrooms and associated prep room as well as 4 general teaching classrooms, shared teaching areas, administration areas and a centralised WC block. The 2nd floor accommodates 10 general teaching classrooms, shared teaching areas, extensive administration areas and a centralised WC block. The administration area at this level is located at the southern end of the block providing good passive supervision over the main entrance and external play spaces. Proposals N
