RELEASE TIME: 0001 Monday October 10th 698/83 On the eve of the Conservative Party Conference, the Prime Minister, Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, has written to the European Democratic Group on the subject of the European elections due to be held on June 14, 1984. In her message to the 60 British Conservative MEPs due to be published on Monday October 10th in the Conference edition of the EDG's newsletter Euro ean Conservative, Mrs. Thatcher says: "This year's Party Conference in Blackpool will be the last before the European Elections of June 1984. "Already we are beginning to think about our blans and themes for these important elections. "Certain people will see the 1984 European poll simply as an opinion poll about the Conservative Government; others will seek to turn these elections into a referendum on Europe. But the Conservative Government's tenure of office and our continued membership of the European Community were decisively settled by the election in June 1983. The European elections are thus, in reality, an end in themselves: an expression of our common European democracy, as well as Britain's undisputed and continuing role within the Community. "I have every reason to hope that we shall increase the Conservative representation in the European Parliament. And this increased representation will, I am sure, continue to promote Conservative ideals for a free and united Europe, whose peoples have long realised that their interests lie together. On the eve of the Conservative Party Conference, the Prime Minister,
