“Does God Ever Stop?”

The older I become, the more amazed I am at the constant and

abundant giving of God. In Jerri and Bill Savuto’s monthly newsletter,

Jerri quoted A. W. Pink, a Christian Evangelist and biblical scholar.

A. W. Pink says, “gratitude is the return justly required from the objects

of God’s beneficence; yet it is often withheld from our great Benefactor

(God) simply because God’s goodness is so constant and so abundant.

It is lightly esteemed because it is exercised toward us in the common

course of events. It is not felt because we daily experience it.” It is sort

of like breathing. You really don’t know how much you need it and

depend upon it until you dive into the pool and hold your breath. God’s

providential care and beneficence is much like that. Have you ever just

stopped and breathed deeply then exhaled slowly? Taking in all the air

you can and letting it out as you appreciate it for the life giving gift it

is? We are in the season of Easter and spring. Look around and behold

the constant, consistent, moment by moment, giving and loving nature

of this God who will stop at nothing in expressing love that occupies

space, time, and all that is.

I cannot comprehend such giving and loving. It is beyond me.

It is a mystery. All one can do in the presence of such love is be aware

of its presence all around us, and with wonder and awe, and thanksgiv-

ing lift your hands into the air and offer thanks. If worship is anything,

it is such an expression as that in response to this God who never stops

loving and giving and sharing and helping and supporting and gracing,

and empowering and…… well, you get the point. In this season of new

life, fresh beginnings and new birth all around us, may we all pause in

the busyness of our lives just to take it all in and say thank you. Does

such a God who will not stop at anything in seeking to love and give
