The seventh edition of the annual Child Baby & Maternity Expo India (CBME) organized by UBM India will be held from 10th - 12th April, 2019 at Hall 4, Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. The country’s numero uno event for sourcing of products related to child, baby and maternity will attract over 200 leading exhibitors from around the globe to cater to the increasing demands of the industry. Over 6,000 visitors are expected to make a bee line approach to the event over the course of the three days.

The 2019 edition of the event will attract representations from over 20 countries with a total of 450 brands displaying a wide spectrum of baby care products, toys, baby food, organic clothing, nutraceuticals, ergonomic furniture, licensing brands, stationery, gifts, infant safety technology, brain development tools and others.

Apart from the leading and emerging brands from India, the trade fair is expected to attract representations from China, Korea, Hong Kong, Russia, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan. In line with the previous editions, this year too, the event will play host to the crème de la crème of the industry with over 150 VIP business buyers to be hosted over the course of the event.

CBME this year will also have a power-packed knowledge session, Unique Product Showcase zone, B2B Meeting Area, International Pavilions, as well as the signature section - Cool Kids Fashion India. The last edition of CBME India saw the introduction of a special licensing pavilion by LIMA which attracted a lot of visitors along with a number of licensing industry experts including Mr. Nitin Karla - Director AI Licensing India Pvt. Ltd. & Mr. Permendra Singh - Head - Consumer Products Mattel Toys (India) Pvt. Ltd. among others.

The august gathering of the licensing industry experts discussed on the top trends in licensing in the kid’s category and how brand owners and manufacturers can benefit from adding licensing to their portfolio supported by the growth in Indian retail and its impact on licensing, and upcoming opportunities in new licensing genres.

In recent years, we have witnessed a huge growth in Baby Food and Child Nutrition products in India. The nation is projected to be the world’s most populous country by 2024, where 33% of its population would comprise of children. This would lead to an increase in demand for baby products. The increased in demand has been aptly captured in some of the recent reports published. The Baby Food market size in 2015 was estimated at USD 50.7 billion and is being projected to increase to USD 72.6 billion by 2020.

Another factor for increase in child care products are young working mothers who are constantly suffering from shortage of time to feed their child. In this case women depend on processed child nutrition products. Fast-rising working age population and good labour productivity gains, are encouraging consumer to spend more on baby care products. India’s child nutrition product market is dominated by multinationals like Johnson & Johnson, which covers 75% of market and remaining 25% market is covered by Hindustan Unilever, Patanjali, and Himalaya. The segment is also seeing a paradigm shift with the emergence of new and upcoming brands like New Delhi-based, The Moms Co. developing toxin-free products for infants and expecting mothers.

As per reports, Investment major, SoftBank is set to invest $400 million for an over 40% stake in BrainBees Solutions, which owns and operates omni-channel baby and mother care product retailer FirstCry (India’s largest online Baby care product platform).

To facilitate growth of this sector, the Government of India has also taken several initiatives which includes modification in packaged commodities rules 2011 to regulate pre-packaged commodities and Milk and Milk Product Order (MMPO). Apart from this, new provisions have been made for introducing the crèche facility for organisations having 50 or more employees, according to Maternity Benefit Act, 2017.

As per the reports, the Asia-Pacific countries, especially fast-growing India will occupy more diaper bags or nappy bags market share by the year of 2024. The growing health consciousness of Indians is also rubbing off on the demand for Maternity care products. According to market research analysis, the global maternity care products market is expected to cross $9 billion growing impressively at a CAGR of 2.15% in terms of revenue during the forecast period 2017 - 2023. The market is witnessing an increase in the number of opportunities for new market players to grow in this competitive market and earn profit.

Under the parent Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, the Government of India facilitated crèche facility for organisations having 50 or more employees. The government has also increased the duration of paid maternity leave from 12 weeks to 26 weeks.

During breastfeeding, the mother release antibodies and other germ fighting vitamins that strengthen the baby immune system. To increase the breast milk supply, breast pump helps initiate lactation. According to recent repost. The global breast pumps market is expected to exhibit 8.9% CAGR between 2017 & 2025. The major players in the online maternity space, are Babyoye and FirstCry who transformed from a small-time interest market into a growing commercial Industry. Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal also contribute 2-3 % of the total retail sale. ICICI, HDFC, & SBI banks are offering the best maternity insurance plans in which pre-pregnancy medical expenses such as doctor visit, diagnosis, and medical expenses gets covered.
