Nursery for children through 3 years of age is available during the Worship Service in a classroom in the entrance hallway. Our loving and dedicated staff is pleased to provide this quality service for your infants and toddlers.

Pathway Church offers a Children’s Program for ages 3-4th grade that meets every Sunday except the last Sunday of the month. The children are dismissed halfway through the service. There is a sign-in sheet on a table in the hall. Today, we continue our current study, Journey with Jesus. Journey with Jesus takes children on an adventure as they travel with Jesus through the cities where His ministry came alive. Each week we will explore a new place where Jesus walked and lived and discover His attitudes and actions. Building Committee Update: The planned "Walk the Property" has been postponed indefinitely due to weather conditions. We're going to try and do it as soon as it is feasible. Also, please remember to pray diligently for the Building Committee as they work on making decisions regarding select-ing a company to partner with us in this project. Ask for God's guidance in finding the company He has chosen for us in this endeavor.

Transformed: How God Changes Us: Sign UP TODAY for a small group. There are seven lessons. The series begins NEXT Sunday, January 31. The Goal: that all Pathway adult attendees would have a concentrated, focused small group experience with the rest of Pathway for this seven weeks.

Next week, we will continue with our Fall study, Journey with Jesus. Journey with Jesus takes children on an adventure as they travel with Jesus through the cities where His ministry came alive. Each week we will explore a new place where Jesus walked and lived and discover His attitudes and actions. December Donations: $36,661.25 vs. $20,000 budget Fiscal YTD Donations (July - Dec): $116,734.27 vs. $120,000 budget December Donations to the Building Fund: $42,630

Thank you for your generous year-end giving!

With the significant level of donations and expense management, Pathway is about break-even for the fiscal year to date. We praise the Lord for His faithfulness in what we know is an ambitious budgetary year.

Family Christmas Pictures Needed Advent pictures of Christmases gone by: We’d love to have your pictures of recent and past Christmases with your family. Please submit these to the office either in the box on the Information Table, or scan them into your computer and email them. Please note on the picture or attached to it, your name and the year. We received only ONE picture this week!

Advent Theme Begins NEXT Sunday This year’s advent theme is “Hometown Jesus.” We will be studying the places where Jesus was born and spent his youthful years. It is no accident that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, fled to Egypt, and was raised in Naz-areth. Let’s learn why. And know too that your place of birth and your life in Northwest Indiana is no accident as well. A sovereign God plans with a purpose in mind! Pathway Church offers a Children’s Program for ages 3-4th grade that meets every Sunday except the last Sunday of the month. The children are dismissed halfway through the service. There is a sign-in sheet on a table in the hall. Next week, we will continue with our Fall study, Journey

Welcome to all, but in particular, welcome to all guests! We encourage you to fill out the guest card on the back of this worship program and place in the wooden box on the table in the back of the auditorium.

Today we welcome Pastor Lance Davids. He is a pastor in the Reformed Church of America, a teacher, and the Athletic Director at Illiana Christian High School. He is married to Jill who is an optometrist in the area. They have two daughters, Audra and Jori, who attend Crown Point Christian School. Pastor Joel has a much-needed break today.

Starting NEXT Sunday, January 31 I promised to be practical throughout January - March. We’ve had three weeks of teaching on making decisions. Here’s the rest of my promise-keeping teaching.

“Transformed: How God Changes Us” January 31 “Spiritual Health: Closer to God” February 7 “Physical Health: From Stressed to Blessed” February 14 “Mental Health: Change Your Mind/Change Your Life” February 21 “Emotional Health: How To Deal With How You Feel” February 28 “Relational Health: Facing Fears That Ruin Relationships” March 6 “Financial Health: Transforming How I See And Use Money” March 13 “Career Health: Facing Giants In Life And Work”

Pathway and Small Groups Every January, I offer a series that coordinates small group materials and Sunday morning teaching themes. These groups meet 6-8 times. This is THE TIME for all Pathway adults to huddle up for small group discussions and emerging friendships. Michele and I have grown to know many adults deeply simply by joining a new group every year for these spiritual campaign spurts! Join a group! Grow deeper in your faith. Start and deepen friendships. Ask your spiritual questions in a non-judgmental, relational environment. No Bible knowledge required. Are you in? Sincerely, Pastor Joel

Church Signs: We are reaching that time of year that frost will prevent us from putting up and taking down our “Meet Me at Pathway” signs. If you can’t get it done right now, that’s okay. We’ll call off the sign policeman for awhile. (Some of you, including me, have received texts reminding us that our signs weren’t out!) However, hold onto your signs for spring!!! Please do not throw them away. We’ll hit it hard again when the frost is out of the ground.

Pathway, I continue to hear great comments about your work at the Princess Brunch.

Here are a few:

From Lauren of Mommy’s Haven: “I am so thankful for your church’s willingness to sponsor us. This was fabulous, and your church did an exceptional job! We had no idea what the response would be. Just look how God blessed it.”

From an attendee to Pastor Joel: “I thought the Mommy’s Haven board had or-ganized this event so well. Then I heard that it was your church who did all the cooking and serving. Wow! Well done!”

From an attendee: “I’m Catholic but haven’t worshiped for awhile. Your church sponsored this event. That is the kind of church I’d love to attend.” (An Impact Card was given to her.)

From Pathway/Crown Point Christian parent: “I was thrilled to see way more than only the Crown Point Christian School community here. This was a broad reaching event. I didn’t recognize most people.”

Said by 40+ moms and grandmas (at least) at the door as they left: “Thank you, this was great!”

Pathway, you are a small church with a GREAT heart. May God bless the work of your hands and use it for His glory and the advancement of

Mommy’s Haven and Pathway Church. Tenderly,

Pastor Joel There will be a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 8, after the worship service. Plan for a 20-25 minute meeting.

Women’s Bible Study: Women’s Friday Morning Bible Study will begin September 18 from 9:15 - 11:15 am. with Session 1 from What Love Is by Kelli Minter. Childcare will be provided. We will be meeting at Laura Mulder’s home, 10595 Olcott Avenue, St. John, Indiana. About the study: The letters of 1, 2, & 3 John were written to en-courage followers of Jesus to remain faithful to the truth. Believers are challenged to look at contrasting themes such as walking in the light instead of darkness, truth versus lies and deception, loving God more than loving the world, and the meaning of true fellowship and community rather than shallowness. This study reveals not only the

Please be in prayer for Toni, sister-in-law of John and Jan Horner. Toni suffered a heart attack last week. Life support was removed Thursday, and she is currently in hospice. Please remember Toni and her family in your prayers during this difficult time. Continue to pray for Mike Bultema as he suffers with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). Pray for healing or that a kidney becomes available for transplant. Also, pray for Mike, Caroline, Gracie, and Rachel that they may experience the peace of Christ and a confidence in being His children. Continue to pray for Ken Thompson, from World Mission, during his trek journey across the country. Pray for safety and awareness for spreading the good news to all around the world. To keep up on news about Ken’s journey, like his facebook page: trekking for treasures or www.trekking4treasures.com. He has shared some nice stories while on this journey so far. Remember those in our congregation who are currently unemployed or underemployed. Pray that they will be able to find meaningful work.

Building Committee Update: After researching several design/build firms, the Team will meet this month to narrow the choices and choose who Pathway will partner with for building our permanent home. Please be in prayer for this process so that the best choice is made in keeping with God's plan for His church. Also, the planned “Walk the Property" has been postponed indefinitely due to weather conditions. We're going to try and do it as soon as it is feasible. Our next Family Night is Wednesday, February 10, Boys, Girls, and Adult Pinewood Derby Race. Prizes for the fastest in each gender/age category and for the best-of-show in each gender/age category will be awarded.

April 13: TBD

The Junior High Youth Group Mall Scavenger Hunt will be Saturday, Janu-ary 30, 4:00 pm. at Southlake Mall in Merrillville. We will divide the kids up into separate groups to compete and are looking for some parent chaperones to lag behind. We will meet at the mall, have our scavenger hunt, and go out for dinner afterward. (Place yet to be determined.) We are probably looking at picking the kids up from whatever restaurant we're at, somewhere around 7:00 pm. If you haven’t already done so, please let Karen Sherwood know if your child is going and whether or not you (moms and/or dads) are willing to help chaperone ASAP. You can text her at (773) 443-5347 or email her at [email protected].

The Junior High Youth Group will likely NOT be meeting February 14 or March 13 due to the small group series that most people will be involved in. Another time to get together in March will be planned to replace that month’s missed meeting. If you have any questions, call or text Karen Sherwood at (773) 443 5347. The Women's Wednesday Evening Bible Study will meet Wednesday, February 3, at 7:00 pm. at Lin Dykstra’s home, 11973 West 107th Place, St. John, Indiana. We will study Lesson 2, “Repenting of Our Sins,” from our new book, The Beatitudes: Developing Spiritual Character, by John Stott. The Beatitudes reveal to us eight qualities that bring God's blessing: meekness and mercy, poorness in spirit and purity of heart, mourning and hunger, peacemaking and persecution. Jesus highlighted these to offer both encouragement and instruction on living distinctly as His followers in a world with values much different from God's. Our goal is to study these qualities and integrate them into our lives. We welcome new members. Call Donna Terpstra-Verduin for more information, 219-308-7207.

The Women’s Friday Morning Bible Study will meet Friday, February 5, from 9:15 am. - 11:15 am. We are studying Beth Moore's, Children of the Day, which is a study of I and II Thessaloni-ans. Childcare is provided. Please contact (call or text) Sandy Vree at (708) 204-5119 if you have any questions or would like to attend.

Mommy's Haven Opportunity: Due to the growth and progress of Mommy’s Haven, we are in need of more help. For this reason, we are hold-ing a call out meeting for all volunteers/potential volunteers who would like to get involved with Mommy's Haven in any capacity and/or time commit-ment. The meeting will give details about different committees and ways to get involved, including a time for Q & A. It will be held THIS Saturday, Janu-ary 30 from 11:00 am. - 1:00 pm. at CrossPoint Church, 105 North Court Street, Crown Point, Indiana (located inside of the gym, north of the Crown Theater on the Square). We will have snacks and refreshments available at the meeting. Please let Terri Schaaf know if you'd like to attend. Mommy’s Haven Update: Last week, Mommy’s Haven had a meeting with the Lowell Zoning Board about their plans for their newly acquired prop-erty. The Board needed more information so they were not able to approve the request at the meeting. Mommy’s Haven has provided all the requested documentation and hopes to get approval at the next Board meeting on February 11. Please continue to keep Mommy's Haven's efforts in your prayers. The Women's Wednesday Evening Bible Study will meet Wednesday, Feb-ruary 3, at 7:00 pm. at Lin Dykstra’s home, 11973 West 107th Place, St. John, Indiana. We will study Lesson 2, “Repenting of Our Sins,” from our new book, The Beatitudes: Developing Spiritual Character, by John Stott. The Beatitudes reveal to us eight qualities that bring God's blessing: meek-ness and mercy, poorness in spirit and purity of heart, mourning and hun-ger, peacemaking and persecution. Our goal is to study these qualities and integrate them into our lives. We welcome new members. Call Donna Terpstra-Verduin for more information, 219-308-7207.

God is at work in and through us. Let’s share how this is so. If you MIGHT be able to help with a testimony, see me. — Thanks, Pastor Joel
