In Colossians 1:6 the Apostle Paul writes:

The gospel is bearing fruit and growing all over the world; just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.

The gospel has been growing at FBCG for 119 years now, and our impact in our community and the world continues to grow!

With over 60 groups and 2000 people using our facilities outside of Sunday worship each week, and another dozen groups and 500 people using our buildings up to three times per month, our space for meetings and other ministry gatherings is feeling constrained. This will only increase as we continue to grow over the next several years.

As we look back across the story of FBCG we can clearly see that, at critical times in our history, God has called the people of FBCG to invest boldly in ministry expansion.

And each time, roughly once per decade for the last 50 years, the impact of the church has increased dramatically. As we look at what God has done, we can see clearly that investment in growth within our walls translates into dramatic impact outside our walls! And we believe that the time for a bold investment in gospel growth has come again.

We believe this is our time in the story of FBCG, and I hope you will be as excited as I am about what God has in mind for FBCG!

OUR IMPACT

FBCG HAS BEEN BLESSED TO BE PART OF A POWERFUL WAVE OF IMPACT FOR GOD’S KINGDOM IN THE FOX VALLEY AND AROUND THE WORLD. OVER THE LAST 25 YEARS, WE CAN SEE THAT IMPACT THROUGH HOW WE REACH, CONNECT, EQUIP, AND SERVE.

REACH CONNECT• Support 31 Missionaries around the world; 19 of them sent from FBCG.

• Initiated several reach-specific programs that have grown significantly; Adventure Club, Easter Eggstravaganza, Summer Impact, Moms Together, Moms Connected, T.E.A.M.

• Expanded worship from two traditional services in one venue to six services in 4 styles and 4 venues.

• Close to 40 small groups with nearly 400 people that meet off campus for equipping in many areas.

EQUIP SERVE• Increased our average weekend worship attendance from under 400 to over 1,800.

• Incredible growth in weekday ministries; over 2,000 people are involved in an equipping ministry at either campus during the week.

• Support over 20 local and global outreach ministries.

• Increased our support of local outreach, local and global missions by over 300% since 2000.

• Began the Serve the World initiative, focusing on several local and global missions partners to spread the Gospel!

IS THIS THE RIGHT TIME FOR A BOLD EXPANSION MOVE?As we look back over the history of FBCG, we see God continually at work in our midst, working in and through us to expand our impact in our community and around the globe. From FBCG’s start in the small building on Anderson Boulevard, to the development of what is now the East campus when the membership could all worship in the Chapel, to the addition of the sanctuary, to the move to the West campus, all of these bold efforts were stair steps along the journey to who we are as a community of faith today.

And God continues to work! He is impacting lives every day. We are equipping our people to serve near and far; we are experiencing the ripple effect of making the Gospel known in large and small ways. This is our exciting call. It is the very nature of the Gospel to expand and grow. The Gospel is the power of God and there is no greater mission in life than to make His power and glory known. This is what Growing to Serve is all about.

WHAT NEEDS WILL GROWING TO SERVE MEET?As we look at the movement of God and the mission to grow and go, we believe our highest priority is to add flexible classroom and meeting space to accommodate ministry growth across the FBCG spectrum. Conservatively, we have over 60 ministry-focused groups (not counting adult worship) that use our facilities on a weekly basis, covering over 2000 participants. We have another dozen groups covering over 600 participants that use our facilities one to three times per month. Some of our larger ministries can feel constrained; for example, our Women’s Ministries have evolved to meeting multiple days and times to accommodate participation. And on Wednesday evenings, there is not a single meeting venue available for use. Even modest annual growth of five percent will raise those numbers by over 800 participants over a five-year horizon. Capping our capacity means capping our growth, which results in stifling the growth of our impact.

WHEN WILL THE CONSTRUCTION BEGIN? HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?We are hopeful to begin construction on both campuses in the spring of 2014. If that schedule holds, the work on the East Campus may be completed by September of 2014. The schedule has the West campus work being completed before the launch of our fall ministry season in September of 2015.

WHAT ARE YOU ASKING ME TO DO?The number one priority for any of us is to deepen our relationship with the Savior, living lives pleasing to Him. Pray and ask God what He is leading you to do. Listen as He responds. Joyfully follow Him with trust and obedience. Prepare to stretch your faith. Prepare to be amazed at what God will show you. God will reveal His desires for you. He wants to lead you, step by step.

Next, beginning October 20 you will be asked to engage in a five-week teaching series designed to encourage reflection on community and individual growth. Attend each service, expecting to learn about insights God has for your personal growth. In addition, there will be written materials related to Growing to Serve, both in print and online at www.fbcg.com/gts.

HOW WILL COMMITMENTS TO GROWING TO SERVE BE MADE?We will have an all-church commitment gathering on Sunday, November 17. You will be asked to make a commitment on faith—a good faith estimate of what you believe God is leading you to contribute to ministry expansion, over and above your regular offerings. This commitment will cover special giving to Growing to Serve over a three-year fulfillment period from December 15, 2013, when we celebrate God’s Big Gift of His Son, Jesus, through December 2016. Your commitment can be met in a variety of ways: one lump sum, through designated weekly giving, monthly giving, annual giving, or any other manner that is convenient for you. Online giving options will support Growing to Serve.

ARE THERE WAYS OTHER THAN CASH THAT I CAN GIVE TO GROWING TO SERVE?If God has blessed you with other types of resources, such as property, stock or other items, those are welcomed. Significant tax advantages often flow from these gifts. Our Finance Team can help you with facilitating these types of gifts. WHAT IF I CAN ONLY GIVE A SMALL GIFT?Our goal is 100 percent participation from everyone who calls FBCG their home church. HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

GIVE.Giving lies at the very heart of the Gospel. God loves us so much that He gave us His Son so that we may share eternal life with Him.

God invites us to learn of His faithfulness through giving. Giving is an act of worship that God wants for us, not just from us! Giving is about faith and sacrifice, not amount. Giving in the Bible is proportional because God has given us differing amounts of resources. He is interested in our hearts more than our amounts. He wants cheerful givers, fully committed to Him. We cannot all give the same amount, but we all can have a part in Kingdom impact through generosity.Our goal is to get everyone who calls FBCG their home church to start, continue or grow on the Generosity Pathway. Use this time as one of reflection on opportunity—opportunity to grow in this area of Generosity, no matter which step of the Pathway you are on.
