It is incorrect to call it “Georgia Tech University.”

Officially, it’s The Georgia Institute of Technology.

But just call us “Georgia Tech.”

PAN SETS PERSONAL BESTSophomore Francesca Pan posted a career-night at Syracuse, scoring a team-high 26 points. The Italian native was 5-of-11 from three-point range, tying her career-high in triples. In 37 minutes of playing time, Pan recorded three assists, was 7-for-10 from the charity stripe and finished 7-of-15 from the field. Pan leads the Jackets offensively this season, averaging 13.9 ppg, and has scored in double-figures 12 times.

KEEPING IT LOWIn Tech’s win over Clemson on Dec. 31, the Tigers were held to just 12 points in the first half, marking the first time since Dec. 30, 2010 an opponent has scored 12 points or less in the first half - Tennessee State scored just three points. Additionally, the Tigers scored just three points in the second quarter marking the lowest offensive total by an opponent in a quarter since the quarter system began in 2015-16. Tech has held an opponent to five points or less in a quarter three times this season.

FLETCHER SHINESIn her first two collegiate ACC contests, freshman point guard Kierra Fletcher has not let the competitiveness impact her. The freshman is Tech’s second leading scorer through the first two games, averaging 11.0 ppg and an impressive 6.5 rpg (also second behind Elo Edeferioka’s 8.5 rpg). Fletcher has shot 60.0 from the field and 80.0 from the line, while dishing out four assists and swiping four steals (team high). She is one of two Jackets (Pan the other) to play 59 minutes through two ACC contests.

TO THE WIREIn the ACC opener for both teams, Tech took No. 3/4 Louisville down to the wire, tying the game with 5.5 seconds left on the clock. The Cardinals scored the game-winning shot with 1.9 ticks left. Kaylan Pugh led the offense for the Jackets, scoring a season-high 17 points. Zaire O’Neil played a season-high 30 minutes and contributed 15 points, along with Francesca Pan. Tech outscored Louisville in three-of-four quarters, with the Cardinals taking the second frame, 33-14.

OPENING THE ACC SLATEThe Jackets open the ACC slate with a pair of home games, marking the only back-to-back home games until the middle of Feb. The Jackets have opened at home eight times since Joseph took over the program in 2003-04, including last year’s ACC home-opener against Notre Dame. Since Joseph has taken over the program, Tech has been victorious in the ACC opener four times, the last occurring at NC State in 2012.

HOME COMFORTTech headed into the ACC opener on Dec. 28 with a perfect 8-0 mark in home games this season. The last time the Jackets opened the season 8-0 was in 2015-16 when Tech and won all home non-conference games. Under head coach MaChelle Joseph, Tech has opened at home going 9-0 or better five times since 2002-03: 2009-10 - 11-0, 2007-08 - 10-0, 2005-06 - 9-0, 2004-05 - 9-0, 2002-03 - 9-0.

LEADING THE LEAGUEGeorgia Tech ranks third in the ACC in steals per game, with 150 steals for 10.7 spg. Miami leads the conference with 147 steals (11.3 spg). On the national level as of last week, the Jackets ranked 11th in steals with Rutgers leading the nation with 185 steals. Additionally, Imani Tilford is the 44th-ranked player in the nation in steals, leading the team with 33 (she ranks ninth in the ACC).

During her four-year career, Joseph helped the Boilermak-ers to four NCAA Tournament appearances and when she returned as an assistant coach from 1993-96, she helped the team to another three NCAA Tournament runs including Final Four and Elite Eight showings.

WELCOME TO PARADISEGeorgia Tech opened the Junkanoo Jam with a 69-55 victory over Penn on Thanksgiving Day and advanced to the cham-pionship game for the second-straight season.
