Getting academic members of staff started
The member of academic staff needs to be the module leader in order to add a list to that
particular module. If they are not the module leader or you are unsure please contact either
Alex Collins or Christina Harbour.
Information the member of academic staff needs
Module information
Module Name
Module Number
Semester/Trimester
Number of students
List information
A list of books / journal articles / websites etc.
Any sections they want and what items go in them – with an awareness of the Reading Resource
Strategy.
Any notes needed for each item / section - i.e. should the student purchase the item.
Weekly reading if they require this.

Setting up profiles
The first time an academic member of staff logs in they will be prompted to update their profile.
If they have already logged in before they can access their profile by logging in and clicking on
their name as shown below.
Click on “Edit” and you will be taken to the following page
Click here to access your profile
Make sure academic staff set
up a public profile as this is
required for them to be found
within the system.

Creating lists
To create a new list, go to “My Lists” – “Create new list”
Naming lists
Lists should be named the title of the module as this makes them easier to locate in the system.

Attaching lists to the hierarchy, i.e. linking the list to the module code.
From the ReadingLists@Anglia homepage http://readinglists.anglia.ac.uk you can either
search the hierarchy by module code or module title. You can also browse the hierarchy
by clicking on “Browse hierarchy”. Locate your module by browsing in your Faculty and
Department. For example Faculty of Arts Law and Social Sciences – Department of
English and Media – Animation MOD000340.

New Talis Aspire functionality - Dashboard
The following are screen prints from the new functionality of the dashboard feature
within a reading list in Talis Aspire.
This shows the number of times
a list has been viewed. It does
not tell lecturers who has
viewed the list for data
protection reasons.
Same as above applies here.
Students can make their own
notes on items. These notes are
private to students but lecturers
can see if students are making
notes.
This item shows the resource
which has the most clicks on a
reading list. Good for usage
statistic purposes.

We are currently working on
adding Anglia Ruskin Harvard to
the RL@A system.
Useful for lecturers to see
whether the library holds the
item. It is also useful for subject
librarians to see if we need to
order items.
This will give the lecturers
reasons why they have good or
poor metadata; they are advised
on alternative resources and
ways of improving the metadata.
Usage statistics for lecturers to
see whether students are
reading resources on the reading
list.
Usage statistics on how popular
individual items are on the
reading list.

Gives lecturers other items they
might wish to use on their
reading list.
Similar to item clicks but this
shows how popular whole
sections of a reading list are.
The Dashboard has different
options; you can choose to just
look at student intent, resource
health (metadata) and activity
for the whole list.
Options here should be Harvard,
APA and OSCOLA

ReadingLists@Anglia: Pre and post training/meeting checklist
Pre-training preparation
Before any training/meeting takes place:
• Check with Alex Collins that the member of staff is module leader in the system
so that they are able to add lists in (cc in Christina Harbour).
• Send/Print out copies of any training guides needed.
• If possible try and get the member of staff to add the bookmarklet to their
browser of choice.
On the day
• Check with member of staff that they have set up a public profile (this will
prompt if it is the first time they have logged in to the system)
• Use the idea that the system works best as a 3 step approach:
o Start with bookmarking all items needed (use Primo is possible)
o Create a new list
o Attach to the hierarchy (module)(see above)
• Show the Dashboard facility as in the future this will provide them with statistics
on their reading list
• Show exemplar/example lists if needed
• Mention that the bookmarklet can be used all year round to collect resources to
update the reading list the following year.
Post-training
• Make sure you have updated the Progress Recording spreadsheet in the RL@A
folder in Staffnet, this should include any liaison with lecturers, information on
what has been done/needs doing and any completed lists.
