P❷ Confidence When It Counts Presenter Sharon Melnick, PhD, CEO, Horizon Point, Inc.

Session Wednesday - 1:30 PM (one-time only)

Note Additional registration fee

Competency This workshop complements the following competencies as described in the Alignment HBA Leadership Competency Framework. 4. Displays professional presence 7. Influences and persuades

Objectives - After participating in this session, you will be able to: Demonstrate confidence and composure, even when dealing with intimidating people or being questioned by

senior leaders Use communication strategies to mitigate social penalties (bias) associated with leadership behaviors and their

effects on confidence and the ability to influence Apply practical tools to help you shift from self-critical to self-confident in key situations where your reputation

is formed

Audience - This interactive seminar is for those who seek to develop, deepen or regain their confidence as a step to gaining increased responsibilities, elevating their leadership profile and making a greater professional impact.

Description - In women, confidence has been shown to be an even greater predictor of career success than competence. What undermines confidence? Self-doubt/self-criticism and the corrosive effects of bias are major contributors. Whether your current level of confidence is low or high, this session will help you position yourself as a “go-to leader” for next-level opportunities.

Start by taking a “Confidence Type” assessment prior to the conference, so you understand the strengths and opportunities in your current approaches. Learn three confidence-related skillsets that position you to be at the top of the list for next-level opportunities, how to speak up without hesitation (instead of worrying about how senior leaders will evaluate you), how to gain the confidence of senior leaders (so you are asked for your voice at the table), how to leverage perfectionistic tendencies to build a personal brand and show your strategic thinking, methods to shift away from criticism, of yourself and others, and acknowledge recognition, how to act fearlessly and get to the root of problems (so people view you as a leader) and how to enhance your executive presence by staying poised and remaining fact-based.

Course fee includes Confidence Type assessment (taken online prior to the conference) Sharon’s new book, “Confidence When It Counts: Rise Above Self-Criticism and Bias to Make Your Mark.”

“Learn how to overcome two confidence killers: self-criticism and the corrosive effects of bias.”

About the presenter: Sharon Melnick, PhD is chief executive officer of Horizon Point, Inc. and a leading authority on business psychology, stress resilience and women’s leadership. Her practical tools are informed by 10 years of research at Harvard Medical School and field tested by more than 17,000 corporate training participants. Sharon is author of “Success under Stress: Powerful Tools for Staying Calm, Confident, and Productive When the Pressure's On” and a new book, Confidence When It Counts: Rise Above Self-Criticism and Bias to Make Your Mark.” Sharon was a featured speaker on “Change Agents: Staying Strong During Storms of Change,” an HBA Career Conversations webinar and was a main-stage “Sparks” presenter at last year’s conference. As the consumption of information by patients and healthcare professionals and their choice of media channels continues to change, marketers need to evolve. Nowhere is this more evident than in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Social media leads the way in how patients and caregivers engage with biopharma companies, and we can learn how to listen and engage with both patients and providers in this forum.

This workshop provides an overview of the current social media marketing landscape and trends, insight into specific channels and real-world examples of social media programs. Presenters lend perspective from the patient, provider and manufacturer sides. Regulatory considerations, challenges and best practices for executing social media marketing programs will be reviewed and discussed.

Leadership Sessions Thursday - 10:15 AM ● Friday - 8:30 AM Competency This workshop complements the following competencies as described in the Alignment HBA Leadership Competency Framework. 10. Facilitates change 2. Communicates effectively

Objectives - After participating in this session, you will be able to:

Identify the key indicators of bossiness in the workplace and how it impacts leadership

Learn how perceptions of leaders are gendered and what leaders can do about it

Be prepared to immediately implement one workshop strategy in the workplace Audience - All levels. This workshop is for you if you are a woman in the workplace, if you are an individual contributor or if you lead or serve as a mentor to others.

Description - The word bossy and its link to leadership have been highlighted recently due to the Ban Bossy Campaign and other similar initiatives. However, there has been little empirical evidence about how “being bossy” fits in with leadership development or whether these playground stereotypes actually affect the workforce.

This workshop explores how interpersonal perceptions of being bossy affect workplace outcomes and how this affects women leaders. Results of new research conducted by the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) on bossiness in the workplace will be presented, including six key indicators, what gender has to do with the word bossy and the consequences of being bossy in the workplace. Leader development strategies for dealing with being bossy will be shared along with tools and strategies for how to not be seen as bossy, how to deal with bossy co-workers and why “bossy” is a leadership issue. Participants will be encouraged to engage in a group dialog around this issue, with opportunities to reflect, share, network and strategize. A variety of proprietary CCL tools and materials will be provided, including The Bossy Indicator Checklist, The Bossy Project Poster and two white papers about bossiness in the workplace.

“Perceptions of being bossy affect workplace outcomes, and these perceptions differ depending on gender.”

An interdisciplinary researcher and avid public speaker, Cathleen has conducted and presented research at conferences and workshops around the world. This workshop focuses on actionable approaches to getting “unstuck,” providing three practices to leverage unignorable moments as a source of strength: listening in, working with resistance and finding the future inside. Explore how to turn perceived barriers to change into pathways to advance strategies. Countering conventional wisdom that holds external best practices as failsafe solutions, this workshop provides a tool to help you use what’s already available in your organization to pave the way to change by “finding the future inside” your organization. Leave with tools to help navigate change, a plan for addressing current moments of change, and a chapter from the presenters’ book, “The Moment You Can’t Ignore.”

“Don’t miss the opportunity provided by an ‘unignorable moment.’”

E❸ How Leader Behavior Drives Innovation Presenters Kim Huggins, partner, CLG

Debbie Kramer, Partner, CLG Session Friday - 8:30 AM (one time only) Note This workshop may not be selected in online registration; see instructions for how to request registration in Executive Forum sessions. Eligibility criteria apply. Competency This workshop complements the following competency as described in the Alignment HBA Leadership Competency Framework. 11. Fosters innovation Objectives - After participating in this session, you will be able to: Describe how leader behavior affects culture and innovation Identify and apply key leadership behaviors that motivate others to innovate Assess your organization’s culture for gaps/solutions to develop and deploy new products, ideas and processes Audience - Women and men with ~20 years of industry/business experience and working at the most senior/executive levels in healthcare. This is an executive track session; eligibility criteria apply. Description - Innovation is a key component of every company’s business strategy today. Many organizations focus on creating a culture of innovation, yet they struggle to make it happen. Why? Usually it’s because they’re missing a critical ingredient: the behavior of leaders and employees.

Research suggests that innovation flourishes when leader behaviors create the right team characteristics to support it. So, the key to innovation is not just about individual “creative”; it is about understanding how leaders behave — what they do and what they say — to create the right environment to promote, support and nurture innovation in their teams and organizations. Using a case study from the biopharma sector, this session explores behavioral skills and tools that can be employed to shape an innovation culture, capitalizing on people’s strengths and bringing out the best in everyone. Leave with tools to share with your teams: an Innovation Culture Assessment and checklist of key leadership behaviors that drive innovation.
